Can you play this in single player mode. Monthly subscriptions for a video game are a scam. Those who pay for it are sheep. Bahahahahahah!! Bahahahahahah!!

No. On-line only.

$12 - $15 a month depending on how you pay. I buy 60 day pre-paid cards on Amazon for about $25.... That's $12.50 a month. Cheaper than a month of cable tv, a month's cellphone bill, a movie for two, dinner for two... etc.

You get the picture... It's not that expensive.

Not that it really needs to be said, but as far as subscriptions being a rip-off... If you're a moderate gamer and only buy 6 games a year, you still save money in the long run with WoW. Say the average game gives 20hrs of play and costs at least $40, you're still way ahead in savings and gameplay as they all new content to WoW constantly. It isn't like Everquest1 where there's a new exp pack to buy every 7 months... It's a good deal.

It's definately worth checking out, but hang in there past level 10. The 1st few levels are kind of boring. Go in with a friend, or join a guild that takes low levels and meet some other newbies! The game is fun solo, but it more fun with friends! No voice chat is officially supported, but some of my friends and I just use Skype. Zero config. :)

Beware, though, if you get into the high-end instances (MC + BWL + AQ + NAXX) you will be spending most of your nights playing this game. I haven't raided in 3 weeks, it just seems boring now :) But at least when I'm done I can sell my character on ebay for a profit. :D

Ok so if you play a LOT then maybe a subscription is barely reasonable. What about a gamer like myself who can only get in about 4 hours a month of gaming, and plays more than one game?

Now you get it, these games are rip offs. Why should I have to pay a monthly fee for a game I might play a couple hours a month? That may sound ludicrous to some of you, but I personally have a lot of other things to do with my time. I still like to play some games once in a while, but when I am required to pay $20+ per month for a couple hours, I am insulted. There should be other options. I am still working on F.E.A.R. single player which I got for Christmas. I have also only played about 2 hours of Civ IV.

If they require a subscription no matter what, give the game away, don't charge us for it. The free time included doesn't count. If you are going to charge the same price for the game as other non subscription games, allow us to play a limited version of the game without a subscription, either single player or a limited multiplayer. The subscription adds a lot more.

They won't do this because they don't care about the consumers. They care about money. Period. And just when you think they care about you by adding something for nothing or what have you, trust me, it is all about money. The fact that you take it up the rear like that makes you sheep. Bahahahaha!

Its true they make quite a bit of profit, but you're also overlooking how much it costs to run the game servers... It seems like everyone that dogs MMO's fees overlook that SMALL server cost..

This is a very good deal, and the fees are just like any other MMO.. but IMO they aren't that expensive.. $.50 a day people.. not gonna kill 'ya.

"Ripoff" has more to do with pricing high compared to cost, than to pricing relative to the customer's use. If they were charging $60 a month for the same thing they can profitably do for $15, that could be called a ripoff.

But your not playing much, making the $15 expensive for you, is not a 'ripoff', it's simply something you don't need. It's like saying a nice car that's a good value to most is a 'ripoff' to someone who drives a few times a year.

I need to cancel some subscriptions though, I leave them up for months without playing - City of Heroes, EQ, WoW, A Tale in the Desert are all paid for years now...

Edit: D&D online is a subscription for me too since it came out, sheesh, I forgot about it. I guess forgetting one backs up the point I have too many.

Tell that to all the people who pay $60+/month to gossip and text message on their cell phone. Heh.

I once came from a board where they laughed at those who paid $15 a month to play WoW, but would then be all over a $60 360 game that gave them about 6-10 hours of gameplay. I get about that much gameplay a week in WoW, if not more.

Oh yeah, and this price drop is universal. I saw a large billboard at EB about the price cut.

please don't thread crap.

this is Hot Deals, not OT. :p

to each his own...this thread is about WoW at a discounted price . . . not your personal opinion about games.

Personally i find SP RPGs to be the best value - i got hundreds of hours outta Oblivion for $50 inc the plugins - and always check the bargain bin for FPS titles . . . but this is about WoW.
. . . IF i were interested in MMO games, i'd want to know WoW was now discounted. ;)

So umm.. I hate to break this to you. But if you're buying games in which you know you only have 4hrs to play a month, you're ripping yourself off. BTW, WoW adds new content constantly with you only paying the monthly subscription. Not many MMO"s do that. If you bought the game at launch and stopped playing, then jumped back into it now, you couldn't even tell it's the same game.

This is without a single expansion pack released yet.

Most MMORPG's I know add a lot of new content outside of the expansions. EQ, EQ2, City of Heroes, A Tale in the Desert are ones I see do it; I hear Dark Age of Camelot, etc. do too.

Asheron's Call 2 did, but it didn't get enough subscribers, the poor folks who put the time in and lost their chars when it closed.
