Not that it really needs to be said, but as far as subscriptions being a rip-off... If you're a moderate gamer and only buy 6 games a year, you still save money in the long run with WoW. Say the average game gives 20hrs of play and costs at least $40, you're still way ahead in savings and gameplay as they all new content to WoW constantly. It isn't like Everquest1 where there's a new exp pack to buy every 7 months... It's a good deal.
It's definately worth checking out, but hang in there past level 10. The 1st few levels are kind of boring. Go in with a friend, or join a guild that takes low levels and meet some other newbies! The game is fun solo, but it more fun with friends! No voice chat is officially supported, but some of my friends and I just use Skype. Zero config.![]()

Ok so if you play a LOT then maybe a subscription is barely reasonable. What about a gamer like myself who can only get in about 4 hours a month of gaming, and plays more than one game?
Now you get it, these games are rip offs. Why should I have to pay a monthly fee for a game I might play a couple hours a month? That may sound ludicrous to some of you, but I personally have a lot of other things to do with my time. I still like to play some games once in a while, but when I am required to pay $20+ per month for a couple hours, I am insulted. There should be other options. I am still working on F.E.A.R. single player which I got for Christmas. I have also only played about 2 hours of Civ IV.
If they require a subscription no matter what, give the game away, don't charge us for it. The free time included doesn't count. If you are going to charge the same price for the game as other non subscription games, allow us to play a limited version of the game without a subscription, either single player or a limited multiplayer. The subscription adds a lot more.
They won't do this because they don't care about the consumers. They care about money. Period. And just when you think they care about you by adding something for nothing or what have you, trust me, it is all about money. The fact that you take it up the rear like that makes you sheep. Bahahahaha!
