This actually has resulted in LOSS of american jobs. They basically send people from India - then the person from India trains people back home in India... before outsourcing the jobs entirely. Seems like a great benefit eh?

In the EU there is laws that dictate that for the workforce you import you must give the same pay and benefits as the local. I think its a good trade off .. On the one hand the local workforce cant drive prices to the sky in a supply demand scenario and at the same time, if there is local talent that is still preferable. As the top 0.1% to 1% wealthiest people on the planet we will have to share a little.. Plus progressive globalism, lets mix it up.

H1B visas aren't about illegals coming to take your job. It's about making sure that, when companies are only interested in getting the best talent there is, that they bring that talent here to the US, so that their salaries are spent here in the US, buying homes in the US, etc. Rather than those companies parking that talent somewhere else, spending their salaries there, etc.

Except that isn’t what is happening. The business model of offshoring coding jobs to India does have its limits in terms of team performance and project management. Also, rising wages in India started to offset the financial advantages.

When outsourcing hits the wall, the next best thing is to bring over talent that is willing to work at a fraction of what comparable talent in the United States can demand.

I know a lot of competent IT services people “asked” to “retire early” because they were senior employees with high salaries. This is about displacement, not skill or labor shortages.

That has pissed me off for a long time but not all H1B visas are like that.

I'd like to personally make a no limit on H1B visas but increase salary to 5 million per year minimum. That way it's not replacing US workers but if there is a major need for overseas talent, there is a way.
 
Everyone commenting here is doing so using computer or phone chips designed mostly by people who came to the US on H1B visas. Not MAGA wearing folks in the great plains, sorry.

If the Trump admin wants to deny new H1B visas in general that's not terribly unreasonable but fucking over people who are already here is just plain wrong.

I may not disagree with you regarding @s0me0nesmind1, but in the IT realm at least the H1B program is/was often (note: not always) abused specifically to bring in low-paid IT workers to replace others, because they were cheaper than Americans and would essentially be trapped in an indentured-servitude situation. I do not know if this is still 'a thing', though, as outsourcing may have just overwhelmed it.
