could the baby have been asking for it?

Ah yes... Who would know that shaking your baby out of sheer frustration could harm it? It's perfectly rational to think that if your baby is crying, shaking it violently is the best way to help it.surely that tells us that it is easy for parents to do this without realizing the true consequences of their actions.
dude, it has it's own wikipedia page.
check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaken_baby_syndrome
it is, more or less. it's basically an extremely frustrated parent with poor coping skills and not much intelligence shaking the kid to shut it up. not realizing they may be killing the child in the process. it's not a malicious, cold blooded murder.
edit: also, how does society benefit from having this woman in jail? it's just another cost everyone has to bear through taxes. she represents no danger to others - it's not like she's going to shake someone else's kids to death.
and not much intelligence shaking the kid to shut it up
Agreeing with Num, again. It's becoming a habit.:\You're absolutely right. We should just shoot her in the head and let her fall into a grave. That would get rid of all those pesky taxes.
We all know x360>baby.
Only.

Florida.
lol, thats actually really funny
Come on, it doesn't take that much intelligence to realize you don't shake an infant. :/
It's easy to paint her as a monster or a psychopath. but it's more likely that she is just a very sad, remorseful women who is feeling totally fvcked up about the fact she just shook her baby to death... I see it as a very sad situation, and I don't see how sticking her in jail, forever, will make the situation better. also, it's a complete waste of money. it costs a fortune to keep someone in prison for life. let her go. her guilt will be punishment enough.
maybe make a few preconditions for her release. As Ben pointed out, make sure she isn't playing farmville on a laptop near a kindergarten etc.

it's all very sad, but there is no way killing your own baby, accidentally, is worth life in prison.
6-12 months, with time off for good behavior.

To quote NFS4... "da fuck?"
Picking up and shaking a crying baby to death is not an accident.
