A 22 year-old woman from Jacksonsville, Florida has pleaded guilty to killing her baby son over a game of...Farmville.

Alexandra V. Tobias says her three-month old child, Dylan Lee Edmondson, had been crying while she was trying to play the popular Facebook casual game. This angered Tobias, who told authorities that she shook the baby, had a cigarette to calm herself down, then shook him again. It's believed he "may have hit his head during the shaking".

Dylan's death was classified as second-degree murder, a charge that carries the possibility of a life sentence in prison.

What if she got a laptop and was playing farmville next to an elementary school on recess. She is much too dangerous to be in my society.

while I understand your point of view, giving her a minimum prison sentence is crap.

sterilize her, ban her from the internet, and give her a couple of years locked up. society isnt going to miss that piece of garbage.

You must not have kids. There's absolutely no freaking way you just "accidentally" shake a baby to death. If there was brain damage or something like that from shaking, you could make that argument, but killing the baby outright, that's plain cold blooded murder, not an accident.

If she is able to kill an innocent child over a game of farmville, how much of a leap of logic would it be to think that she could be a danger to someone else in a different context? That, plus she should be punished for a heinous act.

If she has such anger issues that she doesn't already understand that shaking a baby won't "shut it up", who says she will in 6-12 months?

What if she babysits for an unsuspecting couple and kills their baby?

Sorry... A parent's #1 priority is the safety of their child. And society's priority is to keep people (especially children) safe from people like her.

I see it as a very sad situation, and I don't see how sticking her in jail, forever, will make the situation better. also, it's a complete waste of money. it costs a fortune to keep someone in prison for life. let her go. her guilt will be punishment enough.

maybe make a few preconditions for her release. As Ben pointed out, make sure she isn't playing farmville on a laptop near a kindergarten etc.

Wow is all I can say. If we were to let this woman go free don't you think someone will see this and think that they too could get away with this. You can't let this woman be the start of a bad trend.

Quicker death penalties is the best solution. We do not need someone like this living.

the problem is that there are no external signs of trauma. the baby would have looked just fine to the mother. internally, though, the shaking causes hemorrhaging of blood vessels in the brain, which is what can lead to death. shaken baby syndrome is a known medical syndrome and apparently is pretty common... surely that tells us that it is easy for parents to do this without realizing the true consequences of their actions.
