If you can't own a damn cougar or a lion then you shouldn't be able to own a pitbull. Far as humans are concerned they are equally dangerous attacking.

I don't buy the idea that you can raise a pit to be completely non-aggressive either, I think their instincts are too close to a wild animal to consider them completely domesticated.

I also think your average pitbull enthusiast/supporter is compensating for some other emotional problem.

So you have poked out a Pitbulls eye's and bit off his balls?

I don't see what's so hard to agree on here, why are you so dead set on my dying against a little dog? How are you going to protect a family one day...your family, if you don't have the self confidence that you could take down a Pitbull.

I dont really care about you at all, although it is amusing to see your "Rargh I SHALL KILL ALL THE ANIMALS!!!!" thing. I was considering baiting you into bigger and bigger prey but I dont have the energy at the moment.

Whats bizarre is your refusal to see that these dogs can kill (obviously lesser humans than you) people. Given that this thread is about one of those dogs killing someone.

And as for your dig about me protecting my family against dogs like this I'm fairly confident that I've had way more experience with this sort of dog than you have. Hence my respect for them.

that's the dumbest comparison of anything i've read in quite awhile.

not sure what adopting a 40lb medium-sized dog is compensating for emotionally. can you clarify 'emotional problem' for us

So angry. And lol about "baiting me into ..."

Just answer me this, would you let a Pitbull kill you? Yes or no answer.

Angry? No.

Amused but needing another beer to cope with this? Yes

In your world does your permission matter that much?

Are you one of those new worlders that goes in for magical thinking?
Did you clap for Tinkerbell?

Pit bulls going to try to kill you as hard as it can, its not going to give a shit what you want.

I'm not sure I'd agree with him there either but can you say what draws you to this breed over, say, a golden lab?

I fucking knew you wouldn't answer the question.

You answer yes, you're a giant pussy
You answer no, you've been arguing for no reason.

Anyways, how embarrassing would it be if I was killed by a Pitbull after all this. I'll update my will stating that if a Pitbull kills me, someone must break an egg on my face.

i think you are trolling. mma fighters will gas out within a few rounds with breaks.

my last encounter was pure hell until i got the shovel to get him to release his lock, but he kept biting and latching on again.

he didn't give a crap about punches and getting smacked with a stick.

if its him against you he will run you down and corner you, bite and latch on without you being able to do anything. if you are lucky he will hold onto your forearm while he swings like a shark and you can try eye pokes. you won't have the leverage for full on punches or elbows which i believe frankly the dog wins as far as whos bone is stronger.

even if you land you are going to have to blind it or knock it out or else the battle continues and based on what i dealt with i think they can win. i have seen this damn pit of 80 pounds run around outside free in the mountains for an hour at a time and still trot back to the car wanting more. amazing animal.

also these dogs can easily run up you like a tree and jump your height if they wanted. you are done when you get bit in the face and throat.

i know that you have to have a kill or be killed mentality for sure, i do that when out hiking but i have a weapon. if im bare handed and one of these goes hulk i know im dead meat.

Can you honestly say this about ANY animal? Shit, I'm more scared of one my cats freaking out and scratching my eyes out then my pitbull biting me. Worst thing my pits have done in the 6 years of owning them is hogging the covers and shitting on the floor. I do agree though that they're powerful animals and not everyone should own them.

Its because its a nonsensical question.

I wouldn't let a pit bull kill me in the same way I wouldn't let a car kill me. I wouldn't put myself in a position where that was a danger.

Now you seem to be saying "RAGH!! See me stop this speeding car with my massive swinging dick!!!" whilst having never come into contact with a car before.

i live in an urban area. i see pits out and about all the time, at parks, dog runs, etc... so i guess i am more acclimated to them being accepted. a friend of mine has one as well.

i'm also dead set on adopting, not buying, and the vast majority of adoptable dogs are pit mixes in urban areas it seems. in more suburban areas there are other dogs but very few of them. i also do NOT want a tiny dog. nor do i want a big dog - i want a medium sized dog. 40-50lbs.

it's not like i was dead set on getting a pit mix, the first dog i applied for was a cattle dog. i was approved by the organization but that dog wasn't good with cats, i have one. the next couple i saw happened to be pit mixes with lab or something else, who are ok with cats and good with little kids and have no food issues and behavioural things that would preclude them from getting along with other animals or humans. i want a dog good with dogs so they can socialize at a dog park. i need them to be ok with a cat around. and also with small kids, i have a small niece i'd like to bring the dog about. these two dogs fit the bill.

40lb medium-sized dog huh genius?

Show me the compilations of Labs or Retrievers doing this to people. Shit, show me one of GSD's doing it.

Feel weak or powerless so you need to own an animal that exists to kill? Need to feel tough so you need to walk around with a lethal weapon on a leash? Do you drive a jacked up F350 too?

Out of all the dogs sitting in pounds why do these jackasses pick the one most likely to harm or kill other people?

Terrible comparison. If you ever leave your basement, you are constantly "in a position where that was a danger" Cars are everywhere. Big difference between a 3500lbs hunk of steel driving into you, and a little 75lbs animal trying to nip at you. No human can stop a car being driven at them...

BTW, you're just getting silly now with your swinging dick comments and such. I never once brought up anything about cars. Try not to get so angry, it's unbecoming. We're just having a discussion.

LOL, you block your throat, they aren't faster than your reflexes.

Sorry about all you people who would let a 75lbs. animal send you to your grave.

You are really just being delusional at this point.

Yeah, I've even had a friend in the past that had someone owned a mountain lion next door to him.

You sound clueless, more than anything.

So you have a trusted pet that your around all the time and you're instantly ready to ward him going for your throat non stop ?

Sorry that you sound a bit dense at this point.

Doesn't sound like a very trusted pet. Just what I'd want around my kids.

Everything that you are saying that you want in a dog says Golden Labrador and the opposite of pit but you still want a pit?

I get the adopting thing, but taking on a breed thats bred in urban areas for questionable reasons thats been given up on by someone else seems a bit of a gamble.

TBH if you're in the middle of a city I'd question getting any working dog at all.

A Golden Lab came to mind myself when he initially posted that, but he seems to have some kind of odd mindset.

Between your "Ragh! I SHALL KILL ALL THE DOGS!!! What? No, Ive never met one. BUT I SHALL KILL THEM ALL!!!"

And me thats been in a dog bite suit against dogs that would lose badly against a pit bull.

i know there are bigger pits but a lot of them are around 40-45lbs, i've been looking around for a dog for 2 weeks. and i have a weight limit in my apartment building to adhere to. 40lbs.

therefore people who have 40lb pit mixes to you are suffering from an emotional illness.

you didn't answer my question just diverted with bullshit.

golden labs are too big. i have a 40lb limit in my apt building. i'm also getting a younger dog that is still a puppy and can be trained, by me. but who has a great disposition to start with. having a dog in a city is fantastic companionship and a socializing animal as well. just not too big of a dog depending upon your residence size of course.

What people call a "pit bull" is one of the most varied, least standardized breeds out there. Few other breeds have been tainted with as much backyard breeding and poor ownership as "pit bulls" have.

I think most of the behavior problems you see are a result of poor breeding and poor ownership. Throw in the fact that the breed is powerful enough to do serious damage and you have a recipe for disaster.

Lumping together any dogs that have a remotely "pit bull" type look is okay I guess, but it doesn't change the fact that the breed standard for an actual pit bull terrier describes a dog that has zero human aggression (albeit with high prey drive which can translate to aggression toward other animals), to which a large number of dogs conform.

A lot of this debate is just labels.

and in a fight between a vicious dog and the dude who thinks he can manhandle a 75lb attack dog, i put my money on the dog.

I'm not debating that dogs are great but working dogs need to work off their inbuilt energy or they get a bit squirrelly. You dont want a pit getting squirrelly.

Puppies are good also in that you get to avoid any behavioral problems that might have got imprinted but you dont get to vet the parents which has a BIG impact on what the dog is going to grow up into.
