solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

but I don't see how requiring an ID poses an undue hardship on anyone, especially when it's already required to buy alcohol, cigarettes, get on a plane, visit some government tourist sites, etc.

I agree that the problem doesn't exist. Therefore, no action is necessary. That way, no legit voter will be inconvenienced or turned away.

What you don't see is that getting state issued picture ID can be difficult for some people for a lot of reasons. You already made it clear that there's no legit reason to put anybody through it. But you poo-pooh your way past what can be a serious problem.

Texashiker is illustrative of why Repubs want strict voter ID- it discourages all but the zealots, marginalizes lots of people who aren't. They just want to win, and ruling from what really is a minority opinion gives them no qualms at all. They're on a mission from God.

Isn't the DMV a state agency?

It is not like the DMV is run on a local level is it? The local people do not election directors of their DMV district, do they?

Then you should have no interest in voting.

No job, you pay no income taxes.

No drive, you pay no fuel taxes, no sales taxes on car / truck parts, no fees on inspection or registration.

Unless you are willing to contribute something to society please do not vote.

If you are not willing to spend a few minutes of your time to get an id, then you are not willing to spend a few minutes voting.

Like I said, you are totally fucking clueless.

I could be retired and no longer drive since I either live with my wife who drives or maybe I prefer taking public transportation, none of which requires an ID. I could be living off of social security for years in which time my license expired and I never renewed. Maybe I'm not even collecting SS since I worked really hard and saved a buttload to retire on. Maybe I'm old enough that when I buy alcohol I don't need to show my ID. Since I'm retired I probably own my own home and pay property taxes, taxes that go towards things like education, education that my grandkids take advantage of. Perhaps I like going to the local park or maybe the campground a hundred miles away, I'd certainly have an interest in how that land is used. Maybe I worry about my grand daughter and her ability to access woman's health services. Maybe I'm just concerned, in general, about my families ability to access health care without bankrupting them. Perhaps my son is in the military and I prefer not to needlessly attack a country that could end up killing him.

Yeah, that's totally not a plausable scenario and since I don't meet your ridiculous standards for needing to vote, I guess I shouldn't be voting.

Well, fuck you, you piece of shit! I hope you get salmonella poisoning from fucking your chickens;)

This problem should be easy to solve. Liberals are lazy bastards and conservatives are hard working go-get-um model citizens so voter laws should task the Republican Party with me the job of providing all citizens with voter ID.

Time to duh-vert ? Getting too close to your most cherished beliefs, huh? To your conservative persecution complex?

Guns? There are ~300M guns in this country, and I seriously doubt that number will go down any time RSN. There are probably few places in the world with better selection & availability for private owners than this country. That's what persecution accomplishes, huh?

My mother's, but no, they already had it. "Existing relationship."

You are either willfully ignorant or willfully dishonest, your choice.

The issue of voter ids summed up in one image,

Liberal democrats are lazy. They wanted everything handed to them with the least amount of effort on their part.

GOP members take voting as their civic duty. We will do whatever needs to be done to vote.

Democrats would rather their ballots be brought to them sometime in between their naps.

That's funny considering you're one of the laziest people on this forum.

Anything that requires actual thought you give up on immediately. This is another thing that liberals have a lot to teach you about.

What lesson is that?

Rather than follow the law sue the government on every law you disagree with?

Maybe not that you disagree with the law, maybe you are just too lazy to get an id? So liberals would rather bog down the courts with lawsuits than follow the law?

And of course you also strongly advocate "following the law" which allows women to get abortions.

4 day weekend coming up and I will be working around the house. Would you like to help with the chicken house? Maybe set blocks for the new deck?

Maybe you would to help me clear an old fence row?

Chances are you are not the physical labor type of person.

Wait a sec there pardner, you said you were from Nevada but living in Iowa. Now you are from Illinois?

All Wiscosinites know that Illinois is a true cesspool. The FIBs own half of our state and treat us like the help in our own fucking state. To top it all off they send convoys of trucks with their garbage to dispose of in our state.

About the ID law.... meh.... I don't vote so I could really give a fuck.

He's so confused who he is from day to day. Such a CAD.

This is exactly why you are viewed as a joke. Someone gives you specific information refuting your parroted talking points. You ignore it all and reply with another unthinking talking point. I don't know if you are simply intellectually lazy as Eski suggests, or whether you truly are that intellectually damaged. Either way, you show no signs whatsoever that you are able to think and reason for yourself. That's pretty much the definition of a sheep.

Can someone please explain how minorities, elderly and the poor (the groups who probably need the most government assistance) who cannot afford to get an ID receive any type of government assistance or benefits if they don't have a government issued ID?

Pretty ironic that you need to have a government ID to enroll in and use Obamacare which helps mainly helps seniors, the poor and minorities and they are the groups most likely to not have IDs...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: When the Repubs, and I do stress that by some odd freak coincidence ONLY the Repub controlled states cranked out these voter ID laws (some worse than others), they could have easily written language into these laws that would have accommodated those voters that these laws have either disenfranchised, suppressed or otherwise created hardships for.

Instead, they specifically chose not to, leaving not a single explanation as to why they chose not to when they had every opportunity during the time these laws were being authored. All I ever read or heard was the same lame ass excuse that these laws prevented voter fraud, of which was proven beyond doubt to be totally insignificant in nature.

Guilty as charged in my book.

Republicans think they are so clever, but really they are just going to antagonize young people who live in apartments and move often, just when their political ideology is being formed. This will pay dividends to Democrats for a generation.

Republicans are already doomed. Young, gay, minorities, liberal, poor women all vote Democrat. The Republicans have the hard core christians, gun nuts, hicks, wealthy and old men.

Guess who has the upper hand? :)

The wealthy, motivated, threatened white guys?

This country's citizens treat their duty like changing the oil in their car; they know they should do it every so many miles but they always put it off and then they get pissed when their car breaks down. Sure they will pay for the repairs but when it happens again in four years they just buy a new car, whatever is shiny and trendy, then they forget that the car still needs regular basic maintenance and the cycle repeats.

I'm sure you guys can figure out where the car nuts fit into the picture;)

Just by your use of pictures, I'm guessing you aren't too smart.

Not only are your examples pure bullshit but the issue isn't requiring an ID, the issue is charging for an ID and any required papers to go along with it. And the courts agree with me, as the only voter ID laws that have passed the courts have been ones that do a reasonable job of offering an ID for free.

This is the only pic I could come up with for you in hopes that you would understand this:

duh-vert what?

you on the left are diverting. 'republican' court.

a federal court agreed voter id is ok. the supreme court in a similar case agreed voter id is ok.

but in this case its a republican court that's causing a problem.
