Buffalo doesn't - The Weather Channel may say Buffalo does, but Buffalonians wouldn't say so. Last year, they had one - Snowvember. The rest of the time, it's simply "this is inconvenient." 7 feet of snow in one snowfall probably does qualify for a special name, too.

Actually Buffalonians didn't even have "Snowvember" it was the suburbs just south/east of the city of Buffalo that got the 6-7ft of snow in one storm. Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of said storm. I had over 6 ft of snow last year at this time and a 15 min drive to the north (Buffalo) just had a dusting to maybe an inch of snow. What is strange... is that it was about 65deg yesterday. What a difference a year makes!

I'm right on the edge of that little no snow triangle south of the word Buffalo. No snow for me. Deer season starts tomorrow - such a huge advantage to have a few inches of snow - tracking is easier, dragging is easier, plus there's the snow to clean your hands on.

I grew up in Batavia. The best/worst part of living there was the fact that it was right in between Buffalo and Rochester. 30 miles east of Buffalo, 30 miles west of Rochester. 30 miles east of Lake Erie, about 25 miles south of Lake Ontario. Some years we got no lake effect. Some years we joined Buffalo. Some years we joined Rochester. Some years we got fucked both ways.

I was nervous that they'd destroy the best online weather site. That graph thing they have that shows the chance of precipitation and temperature throughout the week is the best thing to happen to weather forecasting since someone firmly shoved a moist finger.......

I think so, though I was fortunate enough to have plenty of firewood available to keep the stove burning. I think it was 5 days without power. The treeline looked pathetic and ragged afterward, there were just so many branches down.
There have been a few of those over the years.

This storm is still fairly unpredictable. The models have it going everywhere across Michigan. We are predicted to get 3-9". Quite a spread.

Parts of Michigan got a bit more than expected. I'm guessing about 9" at my home. That goes with official measurements in my area. We still have an estimated 3 hours of snow left. 10 miles south at my parents they had under 3".

It's astronomical, so there isn't a lot of debate about it. In this case they obviously mean the term "winter" to refer to the character of the storm, and not the season in which it is occurring. Here in the northeast we have lots of "wintry" weather in the fall.
