By trading-in, you are forefeiting your XP32 license. You can not switch back, and it's likely MS will deactivate your old product ID. If you're on the fence, get the trial version first.Originally posted by: wpilgri
I'm curious about the upgrading my XP 32bit. Does this mean I am breaking the rules if I dual boot XP 32 and XP x64 until I figure out if x64 is ready for prime time? What if I decide that x64 is not for me. Can I go back to my XP 32 bit version and install it using my old product key or is it going to tell me it is no longer valid? I don't really like the fact that it's a one way street if there is no way of going back to the 32 bit version if need be.
Any advice/comments?
I've heard that student versions have been traded-in before, so you should be good.Originally posted by: IanE
Any successfully traded in a student discounted version of XP Pro 32 for 64 (upgrade or full install) ?
I'm considering getting XP Pro on a student discount and trading it in, but I wonder if it'll work...
Pretty much it has to be OEM or Full Install to work?

I can't believe I just got a version of Windows for $12.
That just made my day. I have 2 versions of 64 bit linux in the mail as well. I know the drivers and software are lagging but I am exited.

Anyone else having a problem getting an order to go through? I enter all the info along with the product ID from System Properties, hit submit, and get this:
I've done it a few times and always get the same results. The only thing I can think of that might be causing a problem is that my current copy of XP is an "upgrade" version (not the full version), but I don't see any info on the MS site that indicates that would disqualify me from getting the update.Sorry but we are unable to validate the information you have provided. Please review your Certificate of Authenticity or Product Identification Number and try again at a later time.
I've emailed MS support, but so far no reply.
There doesn't appear to be any other versions of XP64 at this time, not even a corporate edition.Originally posted by: rod
So from what you guys are saying, I can buy a dirt cheap academic copy of XP Pro (32bit) on an academic license from university, and get it swapped over to 64bit for US$12?! Cool.
Does anyone know if XP Pro 64-bit is available as a academic/student version? If so, I could just buy that and save myself the hassle of trading one in for the other.

You don't seem to need it to be registered, but I don't know of any order that's made it past Pending either...Originally posted by: WoundedWallet
Do you have to have your 32bit copy registered with MS prior to do the trade?
I just got a Dell freebee with a XP Pro license but I have no idea if it has been registered or not before.
Thanks
It should trade in.Originally posted by: IanE
What about this...
A Student Upgrade XP Pro 32 version... will that trade in, or does it have to be Full Install?
Does anyone know whether or not the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will work on an AMD Turion 64 notebook PC?
