Yo berry can you pm me if you got the new 8.1 pro iso you where gonna upload a day or two ago because I would love to have it for my usb stick install :)

Another question anybody else find intel drivers for their integrated graphics cards are huge pos in windows 8.1? I have tried 3 different versions on my hd3000 and it gets to the point where after I reboot and it's working it will black screen before my start up screen appears and I get a driver failure in device manager. Right now I just disabled it in bios and will wait for intel to get there stuff figured out but I would hate to be a person on integrated graphics right now.

I've noticed when I go to PC settings > PC and devices, the Metro settings app crashes. Very few results Googling this problem, saw people mentioning a Pictures library pointing to another hard drive causing this, tried pointing it to a directory on C: but didn't help. Anyone running into this?

When I installed my update all my user folders were pointed to my second drive. But it matters how you did this. If you did it on install with a script, you may get this error. If you right clicked went to properties, and selected location then selected Move, you should be ok.

Well I finally got my ASUS machine the updated Windows 8.1 However, there appears to be a message on the bottom right hand screen, saying "Secure boot isn't configured correctly". Anyone else having this issue after upgrading on a prebuilt desktop?

Anyway, I went into the bios looking to turn it back on , and I can't. Everything is grayed out under the UEFI option in the bios. Bah, I may just take a screenshot and show everyone. It is my understanding the secure boot gives some measure of protection from viruses and things downloading on your computer. But I was also reading that secure boot also creates problems too should you decide to use a different OS.

Well, I tried to update tonight. My PC booted into the disk check twice, got a message that the update couldn't be applied and my previous OS was restored. Awesome.

**Edit: disconnecting all of my USB devices seemed to do the trick.

Thanks for your post...it made me realize the issue isn't with the Pictures library, it's with the Pictures user folder. I tried moving my Pictures user folder to C drive, and it fixed the Settings app crash. As soon as I moved it back to D drive, even via the Move dialog you mentioned, Settings crashes again. So it appears, at least on my machine, this is an actual 8.1 bug caused by the Pictures folder being on other drives. Can anyone else with their Pictures user folder on a drive other than C: verify they have this issue?

Edit: It looks like you can still get to all the subsections of PC and devices by searching for them. They should all work from there except for Lock screen which will still crash.

yeah this is a well known bug with 8.1

its simply, cut /paste all the folders you want to some other drivers EXCEPt the pictures folder, for that, you have to right click > properties > location > then move it from there not via cut/paste

I used the move option with all of them. Only thing is I did a clean install and moved them after everything booted up.

yeah the MOVE option works for them all, the Cut/Paste works for all but NOT the Pictures folder

If you look at my post again, I did move Pictures to D via the Move dialog, and it still crashes. I can move it back to C and the problem is fixed, but moving it back to D even via the Move button causes it to crash again. This is after an upgrade though, not a clean install.

Apparently this is the default for all systems booting into UEFI with Secure Boot turned off. I have yet to see a way to turn off the message other than to enable Secure Boot. MS seems intent on nagging everyone into using it (which given the prevalence of rootkits and dumb users, I can't blame them).

After a week of searching and asking around, I bought a Windows 8.1 key for $20 bucks. Was hesitant at first, but I did a clean install with it and no problems since.

For now. Give MS a few months to work it out... :|

Just upgraded from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro and I'm loving it. It's even faster than Windows 8, which was already like a greyhound. Games seem smoother as well, but that's probably just placebo.

Whoops, did I say upgrade?

I meant clean install... Upgrades are for suckers :p You're just asking for it when you "upgrade."

Clean install is always best, even though it's more time consuming.

Oh, and Internet Explorer 11 craps all over Internet Explorer 10, and Chrome, and Firefox..

Did the upgrade on 3 computers (and a laptop), no hiccup anywhere... yet, except the Nvidia drivers not responding once in a while, fixed that by going to an older driver (314.23).

Aside from the 8.1 upgrade not appearing in the store until I ran my Windows Update (it was pretty far out of date lol), no problems personally.

My Gigabyte motherboard vs Win8.1 is a Catch 22 battle:

- Cannot enable SecureBoot with CSM enabled.
- Cannot boot with CSM disabled.

So, I am doomed to see the irritating watermark. And, yes, it does irritate me.

To disable the secure boot watermark.

Regedit
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system
click on EnableLUA and set this key to 0, that will get rid of the watermark

There was a similar issue when doing a clean install with an 8.0 upgrade key, you had to make changes in the registry to make the system activate because the upgrade key let you have a win8 iso but for some reason it didn't want you to do a clean install with the upgrade key.
