Windows 8.1 Update Now Available In Windows 8 Store

But then I wanted to punch Microsoft in the face.

Had blurry text on my second monitor (TV). Had to look online and go into some settings since they screwed that up. Had to uncheck scaling.

Had to get rid of the lame log on screen.

Had to disconnect my email from windows. I hated that it wanted an email tied to it.

Had to make an local account

Got rid of the corner menu things when you mouse to the corners

Made it to boot straight to desktop

So everything seems good now. Never have to see that friggin metro ever again. It's much nicer now with 8.1

that's the penalty of doing an upgrade. I never upgrade an OS. Clean Install FTW! 0 issues

Installed mine last night. When they said you have to reinstall your apps I thought those stupid store or metro apps. So yea now I have nothing in my uninstall programs menu lol. I have some apps that don't have links to my c drive because for larger software, I install to my platter hard drive instead of the ssd. So now I think I will need to go into my second hard drive and delete anything under program files, use ccleaner, then redownload and reinstall my stuff.

I would rather do a clean install but seems that you need an msdn license to get an iso of 8.1 pro.

i installed this last night on my laptop and i seem to have some issues

AMDs switchable graphics no longer works, even after removeing all the drivers and reinstalling the ones from the Dell Website, its stuck using intells HD whatever

it killed my Avast install

I paid $40 bucks a while back for the windows 8 upgrade. But I was able to make an iso from the install and did a clean install plus a registration trick to properly activate it as a clean windows installation. I'm sure you can find a full 8.1 iso but the issue would be to find an install key because it won't let you clean install with a windows 8 key. Once installed I'm sure it can be activated with you old win8 key.

tried to install on my laptop doing the upgrade from the windows store. it did the upgrading thing to 100% when you reboot then it rebooted. I get to the windows logo and the entire laptop shuts off.

This upgrade was a nightmare for me. Process would get all the way to the end, then error out. Repeated four times before calling MS support, and spent three hours on the phone while he tried unsuccessfully (while remoting into my machine) to get it installed. Finally bit the bullet, deleted the Win 8 partition, did a clean install of 8, ran Windows Update, then waited another hour for the update to re-download. Finally, success. Fortunately, all my work stuff is still on Win 7, but it's still going to be a pain to reload all those drivers and applications.

That said, 8.1 seems faster than 8, and once I got rid of all the ugly wallpapers and installed the update to Start8, I was pleased. Metro mode (or whatever it's called now) seems improved, so I think I'll actually play around on that side of the fence. Maybe I'll get to like it.

No problem upgrade to 8.1 Pro with MMC for me. Haven't tried everything yet, but what I have works as before.

Sysprepped Win 8 right from the start to keep the users folder on the E drive. It is a HTPC with a 64 gig SSD for the system drive. 2 TB conventional drive E: for all the media which is typically stored under the users folder somewhere.

No free upgrade for me I guess. I am certainly not going to revert it just to update it nor should i have to. This is pretty stupid.

My problem I am pretty certain is due to SLI. I had a similar issue on Windows 7, I have it partially on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is a regression back to Windows 7 levels of problems. Its something to do with the combination of 2 screens, one of which is 144hz and SLI. SLI only accelerates the primary screen and the stuff on the secondary screen slows them both down. On W8 only the secondary screen is slow, which was a big improvement from the W7 days where both of them went slow even with nothing being displayed. W 8.1 is nearly as bad as W7 although it seems to slow down when there are things showing on the secondary screen only or when the GPU is required to accelerate it such as a video stream. Its a regression unfortunately. The beta drivers didn't fix it.

The shameful thing is that I reported the bug in W7 and W8 back in January and I haven't managed to even get a response from NVidia yet. I have had 11 other people also report the issue (shows up much more clearly on a 144hz monitor than 2x 60hz but its still there at 60hz just much harder to spot) but so far we haven't got any traction on getting it fixed. NVidia don't seem too bothered by it right now so I am not expecting that they will fix it at all.

There are issues with drivers later then 314.22 for 4xx/5xx users etc..so much so Nvidia have already began an investigation and trying to fix the issues,see the thread here at Geforce.com forums,https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/621899/geforce-drivers/desktop-internet-browser-freeze-or-tdr-thread-w-geforce-460-560-gpus/

Some users are reporting stability issues after upgrading their drivers to display driver branches R319_00 and above (i.e. R320.18, R320.49, R326.19, etc.). We have addressed some of the issues that affected stability up to and including our latest BETA driver 331.40. We are still seeing some users reporting issues while browsing the web or other desktop apps that results in desktop freezes or TDRs. We are experiencing difficulties reproducing some of the issues that are submitted by users and therefore we are asking users to fill out the form below to provide us with better data that we can use to setup similar configurations as our users.

I'm still on 314.22 with Win8.1 since thay are solid,anyway hopefully Nvidia will track the issues down.

(1) Comodo Firewall isn't loading, can't uninstall it, can't reinstall it ("This program has compatibility issues")

(2) Avast didn't survive the update, not even installed, can't install it ("This program has compatibility issues")

(3) Belkin WiFi USB adapter drivers won't load ("This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.")

The third one is the biggie: No internet connection. The same Windows 7 drivers that worked with Windows 8.0 won't work with Windows 8.1

I suspect things might be smoother with a clean install, but as I understand it we common folk with no MSDN or Technet subscriptions don't have that option?

Avast 2014 RC3 latest version works fine in Win8.1 as does AVG 2014,as to wireless try reinstalling belkin drivers via device manager ie update drivers part and extract the files and point it,it might just need certain files only from the driver package.

Guys don't forget Disk Cleanup,I got over 6GB of space back from the leftover files not needed from old Windows.

Also, noticed another oddity. I create desktop shortcuts for shutdown.exe for easy shutdown and restarts. Using "shutdown.exe /r /t 00" does NOT restart the computer. It does flash "Restarting" on the screen as it shuts down, but it never restarts. Using the Win8.1 Charm to restart does work, but not using shutdown.exe.

I suspect my Avast and Comodo woes may have been partially due to the "upgrade" process, which usually I avoid. I prefer clean OS installs. Avast 2014 RC3 sounds like a beta?

I removed the Belkin drivers from the upgraded-to-Win8.1 system and reinstalled two different ways: From an .exe file downloaded from Belkin which installs the Win7 drivers, and also using the original DVD (CD?) which came with the device, using Device Manager to Update Driver and pointing it to the DVD. All three methods failed on the original upgrade: (a) transferred from Win8 during upgrade, (b) using Belkin .exe file, and (c) using DVD. On my second go round (reinstalling Win8, and then without modifying/customizing it or installing any programs, upgrading to Win8.1), I can install the Win7 drivers via the .exe file or using the DVD, and they appear to be accepted by Win8.1, but Windows Networking does not recognize it as a working device.

Is anyone else noticing a lack of sharpness or blurriness on the GUI of some third party programs? Looks horrible. Other than that, no issues upgrading from 8.0 on a 1080p resolution laptop. I have Integrated graphics with every driver up to date (Intel HD4400).

Double Post: I ran Windows Update and there is no new updates and I already checked the font scaling and it is where it should be (Medium). I tried small (100%) but it was way too small.

I had a minor issue where my wireless would not connect ,turned out it was my hidden SSID,there is a box you must tick if you have a hidden SSID so it can connect,don't think that is your issue because you say yours is a driver issue.

I was able to upgrade my laptop, but not able to find the upgrade on my desktop. Even going from the link on windows.com does not take me to the upgrade. Both machines are Win 8 Pro x64 so not sure why I'm having the problems.

I want a keyboard shortcut. Win7 -> Start, Up, Enter. Also that menu is really ugly.

That's better than nothing though.
