William Hung is a disgrace for the Chinese race.

Just chiming in with my two cents... I've run into situations where there have been rebellion against "racist" things. I'm just not offended by them as much as I think I should be. I think it's because my parents are so Americanized and that I am so Americanized that everything I associate with in this society isnt' based on the fact that I'm asian.

I remember getting a link of that "GAY OR ASIAN" article in DETAIL... I looked at the article and had a good chuckle, however when I looked closer at the top and realized it was some sort of a petition against racism, I was kind of shocked, and even though I thought back at it, I still wasn't offended--not even close to be honest.

Same with the A&F shirts a while back...

I'm sure a lot of asian people in our society nowadays feel the same way... of course I was disgusted when I saw William Hung sing for the first time... however, I was also heavily entertained! There are actually a lot of thoughts running through my head as I watch him strut his stuff--him setting a bad example of the asian people is definitely not one of them!

Just me... I'm glad to say I view the world's citizens as one color--purple or whatever, it doesn't matter 😉

I feel your pain.

Mr Hung is a clown in the classical sense in that he behaves in a manner that people pay to laugh at him. Yes, some people will use what he is doing to stereotype all "asians". But those people have their heads so far up their butts that they could not see the real world even when it ran over them.

Today, usually the media and the public has such a short attention span that I expect that Mr Hung witll be passe before you can change the channel.

But then other clowns, for example Jerry Lewis, were able to grow expand their horizon and become icons.

 
First, chinese is not a race. It's a nationality.
Second, everyone I've met who's asian happens to be exactly like this guy.
Yes, steretyping is fun and surprisingly accurate.
 
I agree with you... its kinda sad to see his probably the most famous asian in America right now.

In the long run i doubt hes giving anything postive about asian-americans and just reinforces the dorky nerd fob stereotype
 
I actually think he's kinda sweet and at least he's humble about the whole experience..

he's having fun..doing something he loves...and even tho he's not good at it..he's grateful at the chance to try.

He's also popular because he doesn't care what people think...it appeals to the American ideal ...to do what you want..and not conform to what everyone else wants or does.

It's people like YOU, alphatarget1, who give Asians a bad name. :|

that's the image that asian males have always had in american culture. unfortunate but true. will hung only perpetuated that image.

pfft i have to respect him. I love to sing but i probably sound worse then him. But he went out and tried anyway. He was going after something he has a obvious passion for. Even though he knew he would lose he still gave it his best shot.
 
I really don't see why people like him so much. I have nothing against him. I am Chinese myself, but I do not find him as a disgrace for the chinese. I laugh when I saw him on TV because of his jerky movements. I think people are taking him as a clown. I remember watching a local NBC News cast saying someone has offered him $20000 for an album and Will Hung said he has to think about it because he wants to put his school work first, then the male cater (I forgot his name) was like "What is he thinking about, take it. He should take it before his 15 mit of fame is gone."
 
just because you're Chinese doesn't AUTOMATICALLY make you a NON RACIST towards other Chinese.

William Hung doesn't set back Chinese people more than your idiotic views of some stranger failing out of college to sell you insurance. You need more self-esteem.

Probably true, and that is sad. Come to think of it I don't recall any famous Asian female singers either (unless you count the half-Indian Norah Jones, which I don't, since Indian!=Asian).
