As for my salary, I never reveal it. You have nothing to gain by so. Funny, that's what Atot always preaches when it comes to successful negotiation. I thought you'd know this.

As shown in op it was a brief phone call on Friday, I will find out about the compensation pkg on Monday.

That's not necessarily true. I'm currently in negotiations to get an offer letter and I had to give them my rate now so they don't come back with a salary 20% below what I'm making. Because I'm on the top 1%tile of the range for my career, I had to reveal my salary so that they come above it with a higher title.
 
I am not sure I've ever actually had any company ask me what I make when I interviewed with them. And frankly, if they had, I would've responded with "My requirements are negotiable depending on the other components of the compensation package." Frankly, it is none of their business what you make.

EDIT: I take that back, I do remember being asked one time and I responded with the above and when they pushed me, I asked the interviewer what she made. That ended the salary discussion and I got the job. 😀

Normally, someone from HR or the recruiting person at the company would want to know salary or salary expectations before making an offer. I guess at lower level positions, it's not as necessary.

Oh, they just about always ask salary expectations but few have asked "how much do you currently make?"

I agree with this. There are a couple of reasons it is a good idea to reveal your salary at this stage:
1) It establishes an open, honest relationship with your potential next employer. The fact is you have reservations about taking a pay cut, there is nothing wrong with that and any manager is going to understand your concern.
2) It establishes that they have come in under market rate. Here you are, sitting right in front of them currently making more than they guessed you should. There is no better argument for why your offer should be higher.

What do you gain by keeping your salary secret? You want $5k more, just because? Now we get into all kinds of guessing games. The only reason you'd want to keep your salary secret is if revealing that would make them think they overbid (i.e. you were currently making $50k)

You didn't get the job at Boston Scientific. From peers I know there, it isn't a good place to work for unless you're a scientist.

And what is going to be your reasoning why you want $xxxx more?

PM's in NYC only make $75k?
i thought they were minimum $100k.
but then again, for what they do, they should be closer to $50k.

LOL, this. 😀 Every IT PM I've ever dealt with has been a buzzword machine and a major time sink for me and nothing else. And this is coming from someone who is leaning towards moving into a full-time PM role.
 
Ask for current salary with a review after 6 months for the 5K adjustment. This way you prove yourself.

Have to disagree with this. I've been there, and it puts you in a bad position come raise/bonus period unless it's a VERY good company to work for. As zeze probably doesn't know how they are in this regard, I wouldn't start negotiations (and this is just the start) with a such a compromise.

Have to agree with Farang in that revealing your current salary only has upside potential at this point, and asking for a 5-10% increase due to risk factors involved, greater responsibilities, etc., should be a non-issue for the hiring manager.

Frankly, if you meet resistance for this $5k increase now, that would throw up a major red flag for me. If they truly like you that much more than the other applicants, yet won't give you this slight increase salary (which is a tiny fraction of your overall compensation), what do you think is going to happen when your next raise or bonus is brought to the table?
 
Congrats. You could have gotten the $85k base IMO but oh well.

I realized she wasn't low balling. She said all PMs started at $75K there. I will be considered as a seasoned PM along with one other person who shares the same 'rank'.

So I got $80K + my own crafted structure of $10K bonus + additional discretionary bonus.

Again, she said she discussed with other VPs to come up with my own bonus structure. It looks like I just wasn't another candidate, but wanted me on board and put a lot of effort into it.

This effectively put me more 'senior' above other 3 or 4 PMs and only 1 at same level who's been working there for awhile.

All this is great for me. Thank you all in ATOT for your advice and even criticisms. I tread carefully and it paid off!

No and I'm not worried. They want me badly. The letter comes in few days.

Also with recent shit that's happened to my friend (signed offer letter, then fired before working, WTF), it's no big deal.

We just may. They just got acquired and are growing fast. Their IT was really unstructured, so they brought in seasoned IT director and I wouldn't be surprised if they want BAs in the future. 🙂

Damn that sucks...hopefully your coworkers aren't all complacent stock option windfall beneficiaries who don't give a fuck. If they are, more leverage for you to get more bonus.
