Nope, i cant go out and eat by myself. I cant go to the bar by myself either. Alternatives are take out, cook in, walk to the liquor store.

Ive noticed some people can do it as long as their companion is a stack of books, newspaper, laptop, or their imaginary friend.

Bring something to read so you don't look very pathetic and alone.
reading abook in a restaurant MAKES you look pathetic and alone.

as in...gee, I eat alone so much, I actually thought ahead and brought a book.

I used to do it all the time--except I'd usually take a pile of printed out source code that I was debugging. Sometimes the change-of-scenery helps when it comes to finding that mistake you've glossed over a hundred times without seeing it.

I'm betting that's even more pathetic-looking than a book.

If I am alone I pretty much always opt to cook instead, but I have gone alone a few times and it wasnt strange at all, just take a book or newspaper along.

I go to movies by myself frequently. When you think about it, movies aren't really meant to be social activities--I absolutely hate it when people I'm with try to talk during the show. It's an experience you can share and talk about with people afterwards, but not during.

Never a really high class place, but a sit-down restraunt like Perkins or Village Inn - absolutly. Books are ok, but a great on is my portable chess set and most recent chess book. This does 3 things
1. makes me look a bigger looser than the guys with their laptops/books and
2. I meet lots of people who play chess, but don't go to chess clubs/tournaments - it's a great ice breaker and you meet interesting people.
3. It relaxes me and if I do study, I am more focused than I often am at home.

Oh yeah, I get some good food too. This works even better at a place like Panera or a coffee shop.

I used to work in the field during different shifts. At first I hated eating alone but then I got used to it. I just don't care what people think anymore. I would stop in at decent places and there would be a hundred couples everywhere and some wondering what I'm doing, but no biggie.

Next thing you will be asking is someone accompanying you too the restroom..... Get over it... There is nothing embarassing about eating alone in a restaurant.....

why dont you beleive this? where i gre up they didnt exist, there were special rooms in the locl movie places where they had them, you had to be wither 18 or 21 to rent them i dont actually remember, in college there was a porn store in the town that sold well everything, i had a few frends that went, and got some joke gifts for people on the floor,

i was in 1 store in Philly on Shoth Street the sold dildos and such, bunch of peopel i was with wanted to go in and get flavored condoms or something like that, i dont recall if they sold movies, so honestly NO i have never been in an adult movie store. i really have no desire to go in one either

almost all the time for lunch depending on what site I'm at. I've got favorite restaurants I always go to for certain areas. Like others have mentioned take a newspaper if you feel you need to do something. Mp3 player is really nice to have and a good way to unwind while you eat.

I don't do it, partly because I'm not in a position to afford going to restaurants. When I do go to one someone else is paying and the fact that someone is eating alone doesn't make me think any less of them. I think less of those who need to be sorrounded by people 24/7.

I never understood this. Do you need to have someone with you when you put gas in your car too?
