You owe it to yourself to play through FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger, in no particular order. All are great, and the stories in FF games aren't really chronological in any meaningful way.
Yup. Final Fantasy IV (II in the US on SNES, "the red one") is pretty much THE defacto standard that all other JRPGs are judged by for me and has been ever since I initially played it.
Pinnacle of straight up story telling without any BS overdone battle systems, side quests, mini games, or excessive grinding, or any of the other ADHD dudebro shit that plagues RPGs today, nor any of the whiny overly Japanese school girl emo teenager anime shit you see on the other end of the scale.
A classic tale of redemption, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, sacrifice, love, revenge, humanity, and just good old fashioned good vs. evil and saving the world with plot twists galore. To me Final Fantasy IV/II represents what Final Fantasy is and will always be.
Moon, answer our wish!
I'd say it's my favorite game of all time, tied with Xenogears, but then Xenogears just takes it to a whole new level in jaw dropping revelation and kinda stands on it's own.
Final Fantasy VI (III in US on SNES, the purple one) is obviously up their too, and is incredible on it's own, but I still enjoy IV/II more just for it's simplicity and classic story.
I might add that the DS 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV/II is excellent and true to the original in every way.
