will you buy new Final fantasy games ?

Damn I didn't click the link when I read this post, just the quote. Now that I've read the top 10, I definitely agree with the top two.

I never looked at it as though they were "americanizing" their games but yeah, it seems like so...

Just give us an overhead screen scroller, some towns, story, old school gameplay and you'll probably at least get the millions that bought Chrono Trigger ...

Imagine an HD Chrono Trigger tied with a new Chrono Trigger release... Tag it at $100 and I'll buy.

I will buy new FF games if they keep remaking old ones. I bought the redone FF4 and 3. I loved what the Advance FF6 added. I would buy a whole PS4 just to get a redone FF7.

I won't buy new FFs though. When they went to a WOW battle system they lost me.

I agree completely.

I want to agree, but since we're daydreaming, I would have to add in the stipulation that they would have to be remade with the spirit of the original game intact.

What does that mean? I realize times and graphics and gameplay styles change, but any remakes/sequels would have to keep the spirit and feel of the originals intact.

-Don't dumb it down for casual, "non-RPG" audiences like you did with FF13.
-Don't try and make it cross different genres
-Don't overload it with whatever is considered "cool and hip" either in gaming right now or pop culture.

...all of those things, I would bet you they would do if they were to remake those games. And to me, that would be worse than not getting a sequel/remake to begin with.

I just wanted to say Chrono Trigger >>>>>>>>>>> all FFs.

I've never played an RGP that was perfectly fine-tuned in both story telling and gameplay. The music is 10/10 too.

I liked FF6 & 7. But they had lots of meaningless mechanics & tons of useless spells. Chrono Trigger was really polished from head to toe. Almost all spells were useful, gameplay was amazing, combo system was innovative, and lore was outright epic.

I have to be the only person who prefers FF6 and many other RPG's to Chrono Trigger. It was good, but I still think Secret of Mana was better.

This...although I do love a lot of the Final Fantasy games. Only one I haven't played is 13-2 currently.

I thought 7 was good, but little bit overhyped.

I'm totally with the bandwagon that say 7 brought a true 3D graphics and it wow'd the crap out of everyone at the time. It was amazing. The story was good too, albeit contrived.

But you play the game for the game play. I HATED the Materia system. The characters had NO identity and were just blobs. You can load up same materia on anyone and they'll perform similar. The only difference was negligible stats & stupid Limit Break which mattered 1% of the time.

Chrono Trigger's characters had DISTINCT identities and set of spells. You knew what you wanted and what picked what you needed. Throw in the perfectly poilshed combo moves, you got a perfect turn-based battle system that even today's game has yet to match.

FF4 was excellent too (one with Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, etc)- finely tuned. I thought it was nostalgia, so I played it on the emulator couple years ago. Still fvcking awesome.

I actually enjoyed 4 more than 6. 6 & 7 are still great games, but both overhyped.

My brother and I still argue over whether Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger is the better game. The only thing that I will concede to him on is that I think Final Fantasy VI has a better soundtrack. I do love me some Tyrano Lair, Schala's Theme, Robo's Theme and Frog's Theme though! :awe:

I do believe that VII used 3D character models on pre-rendered backgrounds.

The Materia system, and arguably the Esper system in FFVI, are really just simplifications of the Job system. I think they also work well in allowing you to use any character you want, or more importantly that is dictated by the story, and not be impaired by something like the lack of a healer. It reminds me of Final Fantasy IV when you get Rydia at the beginning and no one can heal. I normally just grind about 4-5 levels outside Kaipo for an hour or two so I don't have to chug potions constantly... especially considering Rydia's low starting level.

You're not alone. Back in my SNES days I appreciated Chrono Trigger for being slick and polished but I much preferred FF6's campaign.

That's what items are for. The item gave you craptons of different types of healing potions. Use them.

I've always hated how in FF, you can get away with using almost zero consumables.

Some of the items in the game were rather expensive (especially mana/MP restoration items) and it made it somewhat prohibitive to just blow them near the beginning of the game. Why do you think I farmed right around the city? Whenever my health got low, I just went in and used the inn. It was far, far cheaper to use the inn than it was to use potions.

Adding to my thing here about tons of unpolished useless stuff in FF series.

NONE OF THE STATS in FF2-7 made sense or made noticeable difference (god knows more, I stopped after 7). I remember comparing back and forth HARD on this. Most were blatant filler crap:

Vigor? Speed? Stamina? Evade%? Mblock? These made no impact in the game and LOTS of corresponding items that gave such boosts were also useless. What mattered were just Battle Power, Defense, & HP/MP.

Now, in Chrono Trigger, they really cleaned the fvck out of this. They were reduced down to 6 of them and all of them made DISCERNABLE difference. They also used minimalist meaningful numbers (started at the base of 10 or so), and even 1 point in Speed made the ATB gauge faster.

That's what I meant by high polish of CT being amazing. Even the items provided dilemma because they provided pros & cons, instead of getting just 1 end-game weapon. Not to mention the thorough mechanic description of what they do.

What's shameful is that FF7 came out long long after CT with 3D graphics, but it still suffered from useless and filler stats.
