There's also the fact that the few women who might be interested in football are discouraged by any means necessary.

Kinda hard to get an NFL kicker when you don't have any significant influx of them in the high school/college level.

yes.. Mia Hamm.. there are female soccer players out there that will outkick 98% of NFL kickers out there..

and it has been done before up to the college level..
in fact there is a girl thats on a local varsity HS team here in Sugar land.. and shes freaking good..

Any woman in sufficient shape to play football is going to be at a SERIOUS strength/sheer mass disadvantage.

It's a recipe for disaster, but hey if someone wants to try they should have the chance. Would make for interesting footage.

I've occasionally seen women that are both taller and bigger in stature than me. I've always figured they'd be good TEs (no pun intended).

I'm a decently sized guy... 6-feet tall, 250#.

I think we may see a woman try out for an NFL team, and you just might find an NFL team willing to go through that circus to make more money during the preseason, but I don't think there will ever be one on an opening game roster.

There are NOT women soccer players who can outkick "98%" of the NFL's kickers - I have all the respect in the world for skilled soccer players, male or female, but NFL kickers pretty much work on nothing but kicking a ball, and are quite good at it.

No way. The game is simply too physical. Men are bigger and stronger than women in general and the NFL contains men that are much bigger and stronger than your average man. A woman would have no chance.

As odd as it may sound, I think that a female would actually have the best chance as QB.

Short of a kicker, the QB is offered the best protection both by the line and by the rules of any player on the team. A QB really doesn't have to rely on sheer speed (look at Brunell, Bledsoe, Brees, ect) to play that position, and they also don't have to be the strongest guy on team. Obviously they still have to take a hit, but women actually have better "core" pain tolerence than men do. That's where a lot of QB's take their hits. Men on the other hand have better extremity pain tolerence (arms, legs, hands, ect).

If you were to take some of the taller, more athletic players in the WNBA and raise them from the start to throw a football instead of shoot a basketball, they probably could perform quite well in those roles.

It's just not something that anyone really thinks about.

Bahahaha. QB's have to have really strong arms. And they generally have to be tall enough to see over their linemen. Also, do you really think a woman would be more durable than a man? They get hit. A lot. Anywhere and everwhere. Have you ever watched football?

There's no doubt that there are exceptional women athletes who are way above the average man. But they're still way below the exceptional male athletes who make it to the NFL. It's pure biology.

The NFL will not take flyers on a woman kicker. There isn't room on a roster for a backup kicker. Kickers also have to be able to tackle on kickoffs/punts. Would you reall put any woman up against a 250 lb kick returner running at full speed?
