Nope. Real world results, that I have already posted, prove my argument. What do you have?

he has nothing. i suspect he is a UAW member and such ahs to back everthing they are doing.

Greed is not bad in itself. but when combined with short sightedness it leads to disaster. The UAW is going to destroy Ford just as the did GM. though they won't end up owning it like th ey do GM

To be fair, the evil management was probably just as shortsighted during the big boom years. Thats one of the problems I was illustrating though, the company does not have the ability to scale back costs during bad times like they can scale up costs during the good times.

Ford is going to eventually die a slow death just like GM did (GM was effectively bankrupt for years). At that time the Chinese should have a pretty decent auto manufacturing base, which will undoubtedly take at least some marketshare from Ford, speeding up the process, and I can definitely see them picking up at least a good chunk of Ford. I highly doubt the Chinese will put up with the UAW just like the Japanese won't but hey, at least they can say they stuck it to the man, right?

Luckily we have a very strong manufacturing base in this country so losing almost the entire Big 3 shouldn't hurt much.

Perhaps they should give it a try.

At least people would quit whining because the union has better negotiating skills than poor little management.

Lol, who gives a shit about management? They will be looking for a job right alongside the UAW members.

They are gonna negotiate themselves right out of a job, not sure if I would be bragging about that.

Haha, now that's a riot.

"Give us what we want or we bankrupt you."

Sounds a lot like "Give me your wallet or else", don't it?

I never thought of my local street thug, mob henchmen, or drug addict jones'ing for a fix as having mad negotiation skillz, but OK.

Ford is going to kick ass. The concern comes from honda/toyota wanting to lower wages which would give them a TREMENDOUS advantage. It's why the WV plant is trying to unionize.

If that happens the union is going to be much more harmful to ford than it is today.

Is the union bad for breaking decades old pattern bargaining which more or less kept the big 3s labor cost the same?

They made a lot of concessions to keep Chrysler floating before the k-car and magicwagon brought them back to life.

It seems to me they waited a good bit before getting back to parity at that time, too.

The UAW has historically tried to get its members a rather large share of the profits of auto-making, and placed emphasis on continuing real wage increases with productivity growth. Over the last decade or so, this philosophy has been almost entirely replaced with a focus on extracting as much money as possible, and 'damn-the-consequence' (remind you of anyone?).

The era of labour and management working together for the overall health of the company seems to be over. EVERYONE involved is in this for themselves only, except the engineers, who probably wish everyone else would go away and let them build cool shit.

The union's only financial incentive is a percentage of labour worked. Therefore it's in their self interest to maximize the number of workers and the wage paid. I wonder if there'd be a way to make the union a very large shareholder of the company, therefore they would need to be focused on the profitability and sustainability of the business unit.

Probably get into the same situation with most strong unions - no room for incentives because they already get paid more than their market value.

The thread title of will the UAW get Ford too is arrogant, false, misleading, and pre supposes its the UAW that killed GM and Chrysler. And therefore its the duty of UAW members to work for no compensation or pension just so GM stock holder can be happy. While we are at it, lets bring back slavery.

And the same time, we must realize that the compensation packages of all domestic auto producers, are basically the same in pay, pension, and health benefits. And it applies equally to outfits like Ford & GM, or Toyota and Honda.

The difference is in how long they have been operating in the USA. Its now a yes, Toyota, Honda and other foreign competition can price undercut traditional domestic makers like Ford, GM, and Chrysler by $2000 per vehicle because of reduced pension and health care costs. But when those Toyota and Honda workers start to retire in 10 years or so, the costs of Toyota and Honda vehicles will rise dramatically as those legacy costs kick in, and then the cost inequity will vanish.

But we must realize that health care reform can address some of those UAW health issues also.

This is a very good point

I hope Ford eventually closes some union plants and relocates to Texas and other right to work states.

Toyota already has, they shut down NUMMI and relocated Tacoma production to San Antonio.
