We often just call them LCD or CRT at work, sometimes monitor but rarely.

I feel sorry for the people still stuck with CRTs, especially the ones too stupid to know how to change it from 60hz to 85hz. If I had to look at a 60hz monitor all day I'd get a seizure or something.

you do realize that staring at a 85hz refresh screen with a 60hz light system above your head will give you the same effect, right? at least if the monitor is the same refresh as the flourescent lighting you arent getting multiple freq flashes. 60hz is fine for most everything

Most ballasts for fluorescent lights don't operate at 60Hz. If the fluorescent light is flickering at 60Hz, it's because it's near the end if its life & no longer is able to emit enough electrons from the cathode. (anode? - damn it, I always get those two backwards). The older electromagnetic ballasts operate at 120Hz. The newer electronic ballasts are in the 10's of thousands of hertz.

I know people who don't know from "monitors"... they only know "screen".

And there are those who call it "the computer"

(A guy in my office, just the other day, turned off "the computer" by hitting the power button on his monitor. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it myself. As he got up to leave, I asked, "So, um, are you going to turn off your computer, too?")

Holy sh*t.

Did you ever read my story about the lady at the bank? They had lost power and she was on the phone with what I assume was their help desk. She kept telling the guy on the phone to hold on while she rebooted, then she would turn her monitor off and on, then say "OK, I did it."

I have sadly seen too many of these things in person (and with family members or friends).

I can totally relate with clientcopia.com.

no, because LCD can refer to more things than a monitor, such as an LCD TV

exactly. there are more than lcd monitors...it would be dumb to do that...what happens when we change to a new monitor format? change it again?
