I think if the initial reports are correct, this chip will be ok but not a hot sell. OC less than SB but has slightly better IPC, no change in TDP , it will be just decent but honestly disappointing comparing to what SB already offers.

I wouldn't buy one if the batch starts with L2xx [retails people are picking up pre release]

Yeah when 5ghz $199 2600K's are walking all over 4.6ghz $340 3770K's, Sandy owners will definitely be crying... (with laughter). There is honestly no difference in the performance IB is bringing because of the temperatures. If the temp thing wasn't there, it would be no-holds barred IVY all-the-way. Most folks get "K" CPUs with the intention of overclocking.

What do you actually have? All i hear everyday is you bash IB. What do you run? Get a 5Ghz 2600K and i'll gladly bench it against a 3770K

nice paradigm where .001% of high end computer people in the world live with in a $140.00 tank of gas of a MC to buy a 2600k @ $199.00

-price bot in canada shows $304.00 for the cheapest 2600k

The half-dozen or so OC results I saw from people who bought into the recent $200 sales of 2600K's were all disappointed with their overclocks (a lot of 4.5-4.6). I only remember 1 guy who hit 5 and it was with high voltage, not 24/7 status. And a few people didn't list their overclocks... few guys said something about returning their 2600K to get IVB instead so I assume they were pretty disappointed. One guy on XS actually DID return his 200$ 2600K to get IVB instead.

5GHz SB's that does at a reasonable voltage and 24/7 stable are rare. If it is true that a 4.5GHz IB will be almost equal in performance as a 4.8Ghz SB, there is a valid reason to get IB instead of SB. It is far more common to get a 4.5GHz IB than it is to find a 4.8Ghz SB and you'll still be pushing quite a lot of volts through to get a 300MHz increase. Definitely IB will be temp limited but at 4.5GHz, even high end air coolers should do just fine.

Don't mind tempered. Hes just the first of many Ivy Bridge haters.

I have one, and I'm up for benching :)

He has a point, though. None of us Sandy 5GHz owners will be "crying" lol. I've had this for more than a year. Tears not found.

If you recognize that I am one of the first of "many", then must recognize the CPU sucks.

Do you own the CPU? Didn't think so. It's just your "Opinion" after reading someone else's experiences with it. You can gladly have your opinion but is it going to stop the countless from buying it? Ofcourse not.

Sandy Bridge could clock higher and run cooler but for those of us who have disposable incomes we could care less. We just want the newest thing and come monday sandy bridge will be old news.

Cool, avoid my question by posing more questions you expect me to avoid, I like it! But you're right disposable incomes are what Intel will gladly accept from someone who wants a new cpu.

I wonder if this means it's ok to push memory voltage to 1.65 for these new extreme memory speeds supported. Yes, the box is red :)

I never understood the whole 1.5v limit with SB. I ran 1.6v 2133 for months with my 2500K with no issue. I'm now running that same memory and will be upgrading to DDR3 2800 as soon as newegg. stocks it.
