i7 2600k is $309.99 on newegg right now. Do you guys think prices will drop once ivy comes out? What the best places to look for a good deal on the i7 2600k?

Bunch of us got $199 2600K last week at an instore Microcenter sale. Do you live near one?

Is it going to be like the gtx 680 where it really tough to order it online?

I have never been around for a CPU launch, or should say never planned on buying one when it was just released.

I was curious what to expect?

intel has never sold out on anything because they have huge manufacturing capacity. plus people dont camp outside computer stores for new intel stuff the way they do for iphones since there is no reason to do that

Will IB sell out fast? Hard to say, but I don't think so. It is getting a lot of bad press in terms of overclocking ability, apparently it runs *much* hotter than SB when pushed beyond stock.

It will not price drop significantly. Old architectures in the past 10 years have not dropped in price with new node introductions, the nehalem and lynnfield are good examples. Their MSRPs never lowered, even with the introduction of sandy bridge.

No and Intel will not release if they are having contraints. They will not pull what Nvidia is doing right now.

so do you guys think i should get the i5 2500k for 180 at microcenter? I planned on getting a i7 2600k but i cant find it anywhere for 200$. I really wanted the i7 for the hyper threading but is that gonna be an issue if i overclock the i5? Im pretty new to pc building and im gonna use the pc to play a couple games and run alot of programs.

with the early verdict that Ivy isn't any sort of special overclocker, there likely won't be a mad rush to get them like there was for Sandy, nor should you be upset if you don't get in on it early

Right now Ivy is most valuable to those who plan to use its IGP and run at stock.

:)

Intel probably has twofold, threefold, fourfold, fivefold, many more fold IB stocked and boxed than nvidia has produced 680s.

hyperthreading isn't worth $120. hyperthreading is barely worth $10 if your intensive usage model is gaming. opening a lot of tabs in chrome and firefox isn't cpu intensive.

I think you can count on seeing more of the 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors on the market in the first couple months they you did with the 2nd generation Intel Core processors during the same period.

That is excellent! Thanks for responding. I see you work for Intel, do you know if I will be able to buy the proc on Monday directly from say newegg? Or only being released to OEM first?
