Is it going to be like the gtx 680 where it really tough to order it online?

I have never been around for a CPU launch, or should say never planned on buying one when it was just released.

I was curious what to expect?

Newegg should have over 5K in inventory so not a chance

They should be floating around, you may have to look but I'm sure you can find what you want.

I hope not.

Then again, I remember having to wait like 2 months to pick up my E8400 back when they launched 4 years ago. And even then it was through a PC supplier who offered their shipment via HardForum.

I'm secretly happy with all the negative attention it's getting from the enthusiasts who swear IVB is worse than SB based on ES chips and such, as it might mean less competition to pick one up.

Sell out everywhere like the 680? Not a chance. Any good deals will disappear of course but there's always some etailers that will charge more. Can't imagine it being impossible to score an IB. It's not like they are doing 5.5 Ghz on air.

GTX 680's lack of availability is not just due to its popularity, but supply issues as well.

I doubt you see supply side issue with Ivy Bridge, at least not with enthusiast SKUs.

Should be available at alot of places I'd think.

Microcenter will sell out the quickest I'd think as they'll most likely have a bundle deal for those close enough to snag one.

I do have a microcenter but it about an hour from me in another state, with tolls /gas / taxes, I am better off just hitting f5 from work on newegg =)

Intel is a behemoth compared to Nvidia. They control the entire manufacturing process rather than sublet parts of it out to others (as Nvidia with TSMC). So I doubt there will be any shortage of the chips.

should i wait to get a ivy bridge or get a i7 2600k?

Well, from appearances IB should OC about the same as SB, looking like the 3770k is going to be a 95W part (same as 2600k) so power will probably be similar. 5-10% higher IPC at same clocks, if you can get a deal on a 2600k now probably worth it.

It's a 95W TDP part...which doesn't always = power consumption. On IVB power consumption will be lower...but the amount of heat removal will be the same due to heat over a smaller surface area.

I should say though if I can find a *really* good 2600k/2700k deal when IVB comes out I'll take that over IVB :)

Three days is a long time to wait for reviews and availability. If it were 1 or 2 days I would say wait and see how reviews look but three days is long enough that you should probably get a 2600k.

Dunno I'd get the 2600k if you can get a good deal. Save some cash and ivb doesn't seem to be bringing a ton for people who don't use the igor. Just my 2c though.

Since people here seem to know about inventory:

Will I be able to order a 3770k by monday and get it by tuesday?

Has Intel ever had serious inventory issues at launch?
I don't really remember this ever being the case.

They have entire (large) fabs dedicated to this one chip. It's all they make at 22nm right now.
This is not nVidia and AMD fighting for their fraction of TSMC's capacity that's shared with Qualcomm and half of the next generation mobile SoCs.

When Intel sets a date for release they have lots of product stocked in the channel beforehand.

i7 2600k is $309.99 on newegg right now. Do you guys think prices will drop once ivy comes out? What the best places to look for a good deal on the i7 2600k?
