Actually, in a vague way of saying it. The 1st amendment was to protect speech and media. By media in this time was more gossip and the occasional pamphlet, maybe some printed news. Whatever.

Thus 1st amendment still applies to these.

Actually a key difference I use is this.

You don't need to have a license or register a car to drive it. You only need to do this if you intend to use it on a public road or public property. For example if you owned a farm you could own a car that only was driven on the farm and you wouldn't need to register it and you wouldn't need to have a Driver License either to drive the vehicle. So usually when I hear someone use that argument I tell them that so you mean if I intend to use the weapon in a capacity in either open carry or concealed carry I need to get a permit and register the weapon? Sounds reasonable to me. However if I only intend to use the gun on private property I don't need to get a permit or register my firearm based on your auto example. At this point they usually get upset at me and tell me that I heard them wrong.

If not registering then under NFA makes me a felon with illegal weapons anyway, might as well be converted to machine guns.

You have to register to vote and in some states you have to shows multiple forms of ID's. The right didn't have problems with that even though it wasnt needed and affected legal voters and didn't fix an issue they sought to solve.


So now we have a push for this that won't fix a problem and could place a burden on people so where do you righties stand now?

Isn't that when it comes to assembling on public land?

If I want to assemble a bunch of people on private property, do I have to have a permit?

Do you have to have a permit to assemble a couple of hundred people at a wedding?

What about at a church, walmart, sears, best buy,,,, do companies have to have a permit for people to assemble there?

Lets say a local church goes down to the river for a public baptizing, does the church have to have a permit?
