that statement is completely ignorant as to the existance and persistance of all of those who are out there preventing attacks every single day! Just because you are in no position to see the reality of the situation does not mean that it does not exist.

Your statement was offensive.

Now, you can either take my word for it that real men and women are fighting real terrorism every day, or you can go one believing that your rock keeps you safe. Only one of those two choices is true and sane.

GL with that.

Show some f'n respect!

I look at it in terms of milestones. As we eliminate X number of threats, the result will be a lower threat level. This is an indefinate mission in which all nations in the civilized world must participate.

I believe that the primary goal is to eliminate the largest and most immediate threats, then move on to the minor threats; ultimately reducing the situation to one wherein very few constant threats remain - erhaps only small groups that may pop up from time to time.

In what I consider the "first round," I would consider "winning" to be an elimination of the top 100 terrorists currently aiming their hostilities toward the the US and its allies. Now, this list is a "living document" that will constantly shift and evolve, but it's safe to say that consistently going after the largest and most immediate threats will have the most beneficial longterm impact on the problem. Eventually the groups will fail to substain themselves, and will hopefully disperse. They may simply lay low for a while re-establishing their infrastructures, but until they do re-emerge, efforts can be made to work on the next group in line...etc, ad infinitum.

primary goal: eliminate all immediate threats.
interim goal: eliminate emerging threats.
longterm goal: reduce the threatlevel to one that is more easily managed with a smaller force, and then proceed to eliminate the threats one at a time as they appear.

Why fix a leak by patching a hole? You will always get another leak. Why not just turn off the water at its source?

By the way, from the previous poster when he says he found a rock that prevents terrorism. I believe he meant that our war in Iraq (a rock) is and will prevent terrorism in the future, which I believe he is correct.

Aww poor horsey all bound up. That is a great and accurate analogy (and stolen from The Simpsons). Correlation does NOT imply causation. Just because there hasn't been any terrorist attacks on US soil does NOT mean dumbya's prevented them.
And now for your entertainment...

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The "Bear Patrol" is working like a charm!
Lisa: That's specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: [uncomprehendingly] Thanks, honey.
Lisa: By your logic, I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Hmm. How does it work?
Lisa: It doesn't work; it's just a stupid rock!
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don't see any tigers around, do you?
Homer: (pause) Lisa, I want to buy your rock.

Well, can you identify the "source" of the leak? THAT is the million dollar question. A real solution involves doing as I explained AND an effort to find and eliminate the "source." Most are pessimistic in their beliefs that such a simple or direct solution is even possible.

Eliminating those who preach hatred is an example of what you're saying, but again, is that physically possible? It would be IF the the muslim world policed their own more effectively, but we see little evidence that they are willing to do so. And even those who have the desire do not seem to have the means to do so.

I too believe that a stable and semi-democratic Iraq would go a long way in solving the longterm goals, but the people of Iraq will be the key to making that happen. Our responsibility there is to assist in preventing inside AND outside forces from causing instability.

It's a VERY tough problem to solve, but I am optimistic in that I believe that the civilized world can be successful...eventually.

ps: nice system ya have there! My opty 170 is running stable @ 2760 at the moment... :)

Most of the terrorism and violence around the globes revolves around one thing, Islam. That is the million dollar answer.

Iraq, to the left is Syria, full of Islamic crazies. To the right is Iran, full of Islamic crazies. To the south is Saudi Arabia, full of Islamic crazies. Iraq is in dead center of crazy Islamic town. We can't attack every Islamic country so the best road to minimizing these Islamic radicals is to moderate Iraq and hoping the countries around Iraq will get overthrown or become more moderate, which in turn reduces the teachings of Islam, which in turn will reduce terrorism.

Thanks for the compliment. I could get it stable at 2.65 but requires 1.5 vcore and produces too much heat. I'd rather have longevity, cooler running, and peace of mind. What core and where did you get that awesome chip?
