The Wii-U released in a holiday season with awful launch titles and went up against fully supported systems with big titles in the other two current gen consoles. And Nintendo has not done anything really to change that. I think they are still stunned by that first negative quarter in 20 years a while back. Once the Wii hit the market saturation point, it stalled their profits a lot.

That statement is right up my alley, yes. A lot of people are happy with their ugly wives, but not a one of them wouldn't prefer if she was hot also. Graphics have always been a key component of video games since their creation, this is beyond doubt.

but I see nothing you can impliment in the next Xbox and the Ps4 having anything to blow away the wii u with, they dident do it with the last gen, and I see no reason why they will this gen. Good heavens, where to begin. The Wii is laughably outpowered by the 360/720. None of their hardware-stressing games could ever hope to run on the Wii. The PS4 and 720 will obliterate the PS3/360, and since the Wii U is about on part with those the PS4 and 720 will obliterate it. To use your bench press comparison, it's like a 700 lb bench press vs 250.

The surprise shouldn't be the Wii U has sold so few but that it's sold so many. The Wii U:

1) Has no games
2) Is the most expensive console available
3) Has hardware far more comparable to a 2005 360 than a 2013 next-gen

Nintendo knows this and I guarantee you they are sweating it. They should be.

None of the top games in the 720/PS4 generation will be on the Wii U, just as none of the top in the current gen have been on the Wii, because it cannot damn well play them for beans, just as the Wii U will have no hope in hell of competently running games that target 720/PS4 systems when they are being stressed. So if you like your Lego games, the Wii U is for you. If you want to play Grand Theft Auto VI, get a grown-up console.

One thing I can't understand is why Nintendo won't go ahead and make a powerful console. I understand what they think they are doing. They'll be turning a profit on consoles early on while Sony and Microsoft lose money on every console sold, but they're really hamstringing themselves this time in terms of market share. I have to think that a console like the original Wii could only work once every couple of generations, when everyone has been playing a more traditional system for so long they are kind of yearning for something new. Nintendo does so well on the strength of their in-house software line up that I have to think that if they could release a console that was even 80% as powerful as whatever sony and microsoft releases on the same generation, they could take the majority of the market due to more 3rd party games being ported to it more or less intact.

1. it was dirt cheap + came with a game.
2. it was new technology that advertised 1-1 motion controls.
3. had major hype with (arguably artificial) short supply that kept it off the shelf for over 6 months after launch.
4. is the best "party" console out there.

the wii-u had NONE of those at launch. it is the most expensive console on the market, comes with no games, has no new technology, and has absolutely no hype. oh, and on top of that, it has no games. that doesn't help.

I would argue that one of the few reasons the PS3 even survived in its first couple years was mostly because of your called 'gimmick'. I had mine a year before I even got a game (most sucked and I prefer the Xbox controller for cross-platform titles). It was fantastic, and still is, as a BD player though. That's not a gimmick, that's a FEATURE. Obviously you cannot understand that and prefer to attack will childish antics.

Agreed. Apparently adult-level (or even civil) is not possible in this thread anymore. A certain user is now ignored and this thread might as well be abandoned. It's really too bad, because it certainly had merit when it was created.

Last comment, more to the thread. I sincerely believe Nintendo is working hard to alienate their audience. Pretty much everyone I know has no intention of even trying the Wii U system, let alone buy it. Nintendo has put forth such a confusing marketing effort for it that when you even say 'Wii U' 99% of people are like 'what?' Its a unmitigated disaster, and sales numbers support that.

I thought the Wii was a great party game system for casual gamers (I bought one) but absolutely sucked for most games. The only major games I liked on it were Mario Party and Mario Kart. If I want a good Mario, Zelda, or Metroid game, I have to back to GC/N64/SNES. As someone who grew up with Nintendo, they pretty much lost me as a customer for their IP through terrible management of their titles.
