Wii Controller

Nintendo sure is putting the spotlite on the Wii remote and nunchuk. It's unique and will probably find its niche in certain games but not all. I was ready to bash Nintendo as quickly as the next guy for coming up with a crippled controller when I read the specs of the Wii. It turns out the Wii will be backwards compatible with the Gamecube controller and saving the day.

It's clear that the Wii remote lacks button count. We all know gamers love to push shiny buttons. The more the merrier. The remote has a measely two. Regardless, it would be far too awkward to hold the remote in the traditional two hand configuration due to it being thicker on the right side. I don't believe it is ever meant to be used in this way.

Also, I would think your arm will tire-out if you have to constantly swing the controller.

I stole this pic. I think that controller will be the main controller for the Wii or something similar to it.

Would you rather have your fat ass sit on the couch and gain weight instead? BTW, when I say "your fat ass", I was generally speaking about the public.

Sure, you *may* tire yourself out but remember, too much video games can be bad and you should play moderately unless you are really hyper and have a lot of energy. With that said, I think that a lot of people probably won't be tired because they have this strong connection with the game via the Wiimote/Nunchaku that they just can't put down the controller. I believe that Nintendo may be trying to emphasize this (what am I talking about maybe...of COURSE they are emphasizing it!)

Uh, no. That controller is mainly used to play the older games on the Nintendo Virtual Console, as well as Gamecube games. Pretty much all Wii games will use the remote + nunchuk controls, or the gun.

I had the chance to play the Wii for a short while last week, and it really doesn't take long to get used to the control scheme, and frankly, it works quite well.

I screamed out in pain when I saw that wretched classic controller. How am I going to play Gunstar Heroes and Star Wars Shadows of the Empire on that?!

If your arm gets tired from using that small and probably light controller, you are pathetic.

Don't say things like that. Someone here on the forums moght be recovering from a broken arm or they may have a medical condition of somekind. That if some of those games are as intense as they make them seem, they should be a great workout 😉

the wii will have 4 ports to plug in gamecube controllers as well , They may keep that interface. I think that it was a well made / designed controller.

IMO, the Wiimote will work great for some genres and for games that were created specifically for it, but it will fall flat on its face for other games. I have a feeling that in some games the control scheme will feel like it has been shoehorned in. Some genres simply need more than two buttons and turning button presses into motions really isn't simplifying things at all... if anything, it just increases the odds that people will input commands they did not intend.

Doesn't anyone get the memo? You don't need to swing your entire arm around; flicking your wrist is as good as swinging for the fences.

To me, the more buttons the more fun. I feel there is way to limited control in any console game to date, just another reason why my keyboard is a FTW. I would love on controller thats has like, 15 buttons. Nintendo has the "simple" idea all wrong.

There's 14 buttons on a PS2 controller 😉

Sony's controller is the epitome of a gamepad. You simply can't do any better. The best anyone can do is copy it.

Oh, my goddess! I was thinking of applying for a job at Nintendo World in NYC. They have seasonal positions for "ambassadors"(demo guys) to help with the launch of the Wii. I went to the store to check out the store. It's sure is a pretty store. But for the love of mike it was filled with nerds. Well, not nerds, that would be insulting to the true nerds. These guys were "Ralphies" from the Simpsons. I thought I was a nerd but I felt out of place there.

I have to say the Wii demos were lackluster in my opinion. Even Metroid Prime 3 was boring. There was car racing, bowling and a game brain I think.

Lol...why do I find that so funny...? :disgust:

Please, elaborate for us.

Anyone remember the Running Pad? You did NOT have to actually RUN on it, just barely lift your feet alternatively, and you would win every race. That bombed, the robot bombed, the 3d glasses bombed. I REALLY HOPE THIS DOESNT. I'll be buying one btw.

And the controller has a Trigger button too, as does the plug in thingy (mostly looks like its for metroid).

I actually agree. Of all the controllers, I like Sony's the best. (As far as gamepads go.)

The Wii seems fun as hell. I preordered one today, along with Zelda. I figure I'll be using my PC for "traditional" and high powered gaming, and will just have fun with my Wii.

Where did you preorder at?

You can use the GameCube controller on it as well, as it has 4 slots for them. Of course it will probably be for certain games. If I remember correctly, Smash Bros Brawl will be using the GC controller.

The motion sensing capabilities of the Wiimote, in a way, adds A LOT of buttons. For example, in an FPS game, different movements could trigger ironsight aiming, reloading, alternate attack (riflebutt, bayonette), etc. A simpler interface doesn't necessarily sacrifice power (Google anyone?).
