Wife dragging me to a Renaissance Fair

So my wife wants us to go to a Renaissance Fair. My initial reaction is to cringe, but there is a part of me that thinks I could have a decent time. Anyone been? Is this pretty much a chick and kids thing?
 
Wenches in push-up bustiers, tankards of mead an ale, smoked turkey legs....just try to avoid the ones who take it all a little TOO seriously.
 
A friend of mine makes honey mead for the fair. If you don't enjoy it, at least you can be intoxicated.
 
id imagine itd be pretty similiar to what i saw at comic-con this past weekend. a lot of nerds in costume minus the presence of jessica alba, liv tyler and milla jovovich.
 
why is the renaissance fair always full of people and stuff from the dark ages and middle ages?
 
The busty wenches provide some eye candy. Mostly it's just like a county fair or something - lots of overpriced throwing games, overpriced junky trinkets for sale, and overpriced food. The fact that everything is pretty much medieval and not renaissance period should tell you about its historical worth. But hey, busty wenches.
 
Ah, so busty wenches is a good thing then? The word 'wench' threw me off... 🙂

I'm pretty sure I'll be drunk at some point during the event.

Get in costume yourself for the full effect.

As far as the wenches, they dress in corsets that can make anyone have rude titties, even guys. :laugh:

Because Renaissance fair sounds better than Dark Ages fair or Middle Ages fair. The one I got married at specified a general time frame of 1250-1650 (which does include the tail end of the Middle Ages).

As others have warned, beware the ones who are TOO into it... my first time at a Redfaire, I immediately got jumped by some girl who asked if my sunglasses were some strange device forged by a wizard.

On another note, if there's anything you're interested in buying, they charge up the wazoo for cloaks, hats, bags, brooches, rings, pretty much everything. You can probably get stuff comparable for less on-line, though this has the benefit of being able to try stuff on in person to make sure it fits.

If you can find one, it'd be a good idea to wear one of those "Magic: The Gathering" parody shirts that says "No magic the gathering card can be played within a twenty-foot radius." Unfortunately, they wouldn't get the joke or the hint to stay away from you and just swarm all over you.

It's all pretty expensive online, too... ren fair seems to be a real cash cow.
