Wife dragging me to a Renaissance Fair

Some guy dressed up as a knight complimented my son on his noble steed when we went to the renaissance fair when he was about 2. He was riding on my spouse's shoulders. I don't know why I found that to be so funny.

Wenches in push-up bustiers, ....

Heh the last one my wife and I went to we took a friend. We stopped to ask a Wench what she thought we should see.

When her mouth stopped moving my friend and I turned to eachother and basically had the understanding that we didn't hear (listen to) a word she was saying.

Good times, bring some cash though.

So my wife wants us to go to a Renaissance Fair. My initial reaction is to cringe, but there is a part of me that thinks I could have a decent time. Anyone been? Is this pretty much a chick and kids thing?

Upstate (Tuxedo) New York

I'm not sure how big this one is by comparison.

There are a lot of wacky people at Renasissance festivals. They get all dressed up and even talk with accents. It's kind of funny actually. There's a lot to do; things like shopping, eating, live performances, and games.

I didnt get a chance to go last year, but I went th eyear before with my gf and her little cousins. I did some rock (castle) climbing thing and I played some games.

It's really not my idea of a good time, but I would go again, just because it's something different.

I'll tell you one thing though; if you go, buy a turkey leg. My god those things are good. I usually eat two when I go to these types of festivals or fairs.

the one i've been to in PA barely has regular people dressed up. the people who are dressed up are employees of the fair or people who have shops set up at the fair.

its pretty cool, especially if you're into history or that era. If you some big dumb uncultured jock, you won't like it.

... Beat me to it.

As others have warned, beware the ones who are TOO into it... my first time at a Redfaire, I immediately got jumped by some girl who asked if my sunglasses were some strange device forged by a wizard.
...

unless you're going to billy bob's backyard faire, its because they're actors, dumbass. it's a re-enactment. they didn't have that stuff back then. these people are playing a part.

its like going to a civil war re-enactment and wondering why they aren't using F-22 Raptors and AK-47s...

Look dumbass, this was almost immediately after I walked through the door in the middle of a long, empty stretch between stalls. I don't think minding my own business and getting jumped by someone acting like a freak is reasonable.

There's "playing a part and being an actor" and then there's "jumping on random people who are minding their own business and acting weird."

As to Civil War re-enactements, hell YES I'd go if they had F-22 raptors! 😛

Maybe, she thought you were hawt and trying to pick-you up. She was dressed as a wench, maybe she was acting the part too.

Tuxedo? I've been to one in Sterling, NY.

Win the contests and you get to kiss the wenches. What can the wife say--you won fair and square?!

How big is the fair?

Last time I went to one they had a booth where you could throw axes/knives at some wooden target. That was fun. 🙂

Not the same one.

Where is Tuxedo, NY?

All I know is that it was hot, dusty, smelly, dirty and expensive. The shopping for souvenirs etc. is similar to any theme park in terms of price to quality. The shows weren't that great either... Maybe you have to be drunk to enjoy it??

We went a week or two ago, here are some pics:

You can expect a large assortment of pigbots and dorks. There will also be lots of hawt ladies in little clothing. They have beer, and you can people watch. My friends and I go once every summer to people watch.

*edit - pics are from the WI renny faire.

Nice Tips
