Why would you buy a console for gaming

The Office Depot HP deal for $299 was two weeks ago so I don?t remember all of the specs. It did have free AGP and PCI-E slots and 4 total RAM DIMMs. I did a cost up for my wife?s ?poor? nephew to see if the family wanted to pitch in and get him a big gift since he is being raised by a single mom. My wife?s ?rich? nephew (different sister) wants an XBOX360 and will probably get it. The little brat actually said ?Since it is only $100 more than the core system we might as well get it.?

Yes the top ten list was meant for fun, I had a half-dozen good reasons and wanted to round up to ten.

I did a similar buy/upgrade for my 9 year old son in February and the 6600GT AGP runs everything we will let him play (Sorry no FEAR for the little guy) on the stock 300W PSU and it has component outputs. Currently, he is doing photoshops and making GIF cartoons, great fun! The $200 in rebates only took 32 days.

To each his own.

Question: How may online players can join a typical XBOX fps game? We have had up to 50 on our LAN games.

Your 1. Response is really off what I was getting at. People don't want to spend money on a pc. Doesn't matter if you have a "nice gaming rig"

2. You and I are more knowledgeable than the average console gamer. They just want to play, not go through crap when things go wrong.

3. ok, upgrades don't bother you so what, console gamers are not technical people.

Your answers are really irrelevant. I said why Console exist and you counter it with why those don't bother you.

My point was that consoles don't exist solely for people who don't want to game on PC's. There are A LOT of gamers that do both. It doesn't have to be one or the other, as many people in this thread are looking at it.

Console gamers are not technical people? Have you seen what the people at xbox-scene pulled off with the Xbox? Go look that up and see if you still feel that they are not technical.

Giving a child a PC isn't always a good choice, depending on their age. What if you don't have the skills or time to monitor their internet activity? Unless xbox live includes a browser then my point is moot.

Umm... I'm a console gamer. As are many people at my work. I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't consider me a "technical" person.

It seems as though you (djmihow) think that consoles are only for those who can't afford a decent PC, or isn't PC saavy... And while I'm sure you are correct in some cases, to generalize that is very inaccurate.

If I had to absolutely choose between a top graphics card or an Xbox 360, I'd pick the 360. Taking the experience as a whole, I'd rather game on a console.
