<< How do you tell if you're circumsized or not? >>

Cut="normal looking". Uncut=looks like a pig in a blanket

Black guy to black guy who thought he was dead: "They said you was hung!"
Black guy: "And they was right!"

Circumcision became routine in the United States around the turn of the 19th century. The powers that be thought that, with a smaller foreskin, and therefore less nerves in the penis, it would make masturbation less enjoyable, and therefore, hopefully reduce people's desire to do it. This came from a puritanical beleif that masturbation was giving in to lust, and therefore evil. It stayed a routine practice for over 50 years because, well, it was normal. Everyone got thier kids circumcised cause everyone else got thier kids circumcised.

Lately, there's been a trend toward not circumcising boys in the USA. People have realized that the health benefits of it are slim to none, and they thought they might like to give thier sons the choice as to whether or not they want parts of thier penis removed.

If you honestly can't tell if you're circumcised: The uncircumcised penis is covered by the foreskin. It will have smooth skin going up from the base all the way to the end. This skin slides back. In the circumcised penis: the foreskin has been removed. skin comes up from the base to the bottom of the head of the penis. There's an obvious "seam" where the foreskin ends. There's no skin covering the head of the penis to slide back.

i heard today that women who are sleeping with a guy who is circumsized are 3X less likely to get cervical cancer. Somehow I doubt it though.

It's never been an issue in my life, I can't remember having it done, so therefore I have no feelings on the subject.

I don't know, why don't you ask your parents :p

It seems most of you are glad you were circumsized, I'm glad I'm wasn't. :p

NotFred~ you seem to be the only informed one here! I am so ashamed at how COMPLETELY FVCKING IGNORANT all the rest of you all about your own damn penises! It is really a shame!

Okay, let me school yo' asses-- First off, NotFred is correct in all respects. Circumcision was popular among Jews starting in like 5000BC due to cleanliness reasons, however, things have changed and it is not necessary any more for hygine reasons. Then in the late 19th century a bunch of religious doctors figured that sin masturbation was a sin it would be smart to start cutting off people's foreskins so that it would not be pleasureable any more. This is plain and simple genital mutilation, much the same as the removal of the clitoris in some African cultures.

As for the argument about cervical cancer, we need to read that article a bit closer. They say, "Women whose high-risk partners were not circumcised were five times more likely to get cancer than those whose partners were circumcised." They clearly say "high-risk partners." Hello? All this is saying is that for men who are likely to get herpes (genital warts), due to their promiscuity and "high-risk" behaviors, the virus can live longer under the foreskin than if there is no foreskin there. If you're a woman, don't sleep with men who are "high-risk." If you're a man, don't be stupid and get herpes.

The doctor in the article added: "Cutting off a normal healthy functioning body part (the foreskin) to prevent an unlikely disease or infection would be like pulling healthy teeth to prevent tooth decay." He is NOT recommending circumcision at all!

The majority of stimulation that the penis is capable of is located in the foreskin and frenulum (the band of skin that connects the foreskin to the head). Both of these tissues are removed during circumcision, causing a loss of part of the normal function of the penis. Furthermore, once the foreskin is removed the moist head is exposed to your underwear and allows to dry out and become calused, resulting in a significant loss of sensitivity.

There is some really great books and resources that can be found on the internet that talk about this issue. In particular you should read the forums over at FatherMag.com...
THIS FORUM in particular talks all about circumcision and the issues surrounding it.

I'd just like to say that I am glad to be intact and not mutilated. FYI: intact = uncircumcised. The word uncircumcised denotes that I am somehow missing something, due to the prefix "un." Instead, it makes more sense to call those who have not been cut "intact" and those who have been cut "unintact." That way the guys who are missing something get the "un" prefix.

And to those who say that a circumcised penis looks better, or more normal, are misguided. You only think that becasue that is what is dominant in our society. If it were not so popular those who are un-intact would be looked at like freaks. How messed up is it that we make a practice of cutting off an integral part of a baby's most sensitive organ without their permission. Its like, "Hello baby, welcome to the world, first off let's mutilate your genitals and then send you on your way."

If you are a soon-to-be-parent I urge you to NOT mutilate your baby.

That is correct... IF the guy they are sleeping with is at high-risk for carrying herpes (genital warts).

Why take the risk of sleeping with a guy that might have genital warts to begin with? Its like saying that people with heart disease are 10X more likely to die of heart conditions that people with healthy hearts. Duh.

<< According to my girlfriend, who is studying to be an OBGYN (ewwww), it's because men with poor hygeine who are uncircumsized tend to get an accumulation of bateria and viruses in there >>

OMG:frown: Maybe before person hygeine was not even thought about. Get real, most guys/dads are probably for it for no other reason than they want their son(s) to look/be like them.

wrong!

For simplicity's sake, I'll just paste in from bible.com:

17:1And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, Jehovah appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be thou perfect. 17:2And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 17:3And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 17:4As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be the father of a multitude of nations. 17:5Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee. 17:6And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. 17:7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. 17:8And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

17:9And God said unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout their generations. 17:10This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee: every male among you shall be circumcised. 17:11And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt me and you. 17:12And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any foreigner that is not of thy seed. 17:13He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 17:14And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

<< because foreskins are scary >>

My ex LOVED my foreskin. Gives you more to do with the penis. However, I'd choose to be circumsized so I could last longer in bed... Be happy with circumcision :D

How does knowing about it help me live my life? I know I have one and I know it works so why does it matter? I'd much rather learn things that pertain to life outside my bedroom, like people skills.

<< However, I'd choose to be circumsized so I could last longer in bed... Be happy with circumcision. >>

This could also be said as the following: "I'd choose to be circumsized so that I would lose the ability to feel all of the pleasure that my foreskin and frenulum provide me, as well as cause the head of my penis to become dry and calused, thus making it so that I can't orgasm as easily." Well, guess what, it might not be an issue now... but guess who will have difficulty reaching orgasm once they get old? Yep, you, those who are cut will have a more difficult time reaching orgasm (in general) when you get older. Now how do you feel? Happy to be mutilated? :( Thought not.

As well, many women say that sex is often too rough with men who are cut, due to the excessive amount of pounding in and out which is necessary to acheive the proper amount of stimulation to reach orgasm. Also, circumcision can contribute to lack-of-lubrication problems during intercourse. The foreskin acts as a sleve which the head of the penis slides in and out of within the vagina, while the foreskin moves in and out much less... this allows all of the natural lubrication from the vagina and the penis to stay inside the vagina where it should be. However, when the foreskin is removed, all of the penis must move in and out which draws some of the lubrication out with each stroke. This removal of lubrication can cause problems with dryness and irritation-- doesn't happen in every case, but if you go over to that forum you will find plenty of women who say that it caused problems for them and their mates.

<< Circumcision was started for no other reason than disease prevention. >>

Correct... back in 5000 b.c. Regardless of the biblical text (which are simply stories/moral tales that are created to teach people about values) the real reason was becasue of disease. Just like the rule not to eat pork for the Jews. There are other reasons listed like, "Don't eat swine. God commands you!" But the real reason is that pigs carried some nasty diseases back then... it wasn't becasue it was a pig. It it had been cows with the disease then I am sure that Jews would not eat cows still today.

However, circumcision in America is NOT due to disease or jewish traditions. It is due to puritans that wanted to curb masturbation in young men, not disease. Please go to the local book store (or at least that forum I linked) and do some research! I think most of us would agree that sex is one of our most favorite things... if that is true then it would make sense to learn all you can about anything related to sex, including the functions/anatomy/history of our penises.
