Why was I circumsized?!?!

From what I understand, my generation (I'm 38) of US born men are usually circumsized. There is a trend now to avoid circumcision since it is felt that it is unneccessary and provides unneccessary trama to the child (I don't really buy this argument since I don't remember being circumsized at all and therefore it must not have been that tramatic an experience for me).

Since I am enthnically Chinese, I sometimes wonder why my parents choose to have me circumsized. Was it because the doctor recommended it and my father just went along? Or is it because most Chinese are circumsized (I wouldn't know since I don't go around trying to looked at naked Chinese men)?

Anyways, this thought came across because I was listening to NPR radio while driving to work this morning and they had a report about a new study suggesting that women who have sex with circumsized men are less likely to develop a particular type of cancer (cervical) compared to women who have uncircumsized sex partners. So, it seems like there might be a benefit to circumcision -- but it's the women who benefit, not the men.

Also, from what I understand, circumcision is a Jewish practice so why did most of the US adopt this practice? I heard that most European men are not circumsized.

According to my girlfriend, who is studying to be an OBGYN (ewwww), it's because men with poor hygeine who are uncircumsized tend to get an accumulation of bateria and viruses in there, specifically the virus that causes cervical cancer.

How could any man possibly have that problem.

She also said that the test was done on a really small sample group and the scientists were biased because they were trying to prove that circumsision was necessary. So apparently the test can't really be trusted.

Every woman I've ever watched a porn vid with (ahhh....those fraternity days 😀) that has an uncut guy in it always got the same response: "EEEWWWWWW....GROSS!!!! IT LOOKS LIKE THE END OF AN ELEPHANT TRUNK!!!!"

<< How do you tell if you're circumsized or not? 😱 >>

Uh, if you can't tell you just might have a bigger problem than worrying about whether you're circumsized or not. 😕

I don't think women care whether the man is cut or uncut. Its just that tradiationally "bald" guys are more common, so thats what is perceived to be "normal". As for the elephant trunk look...in the excited state, even in uncut individuals, the skin is retracted a certain degree. Looks kinda like a ring pop.

As for the bacteria buildup, proper hygiene will take care of that. And remember, once you lose its, its hard to glue it back on.
