I think PCs are better for certain games like Starcraft and such where a mouse helps you to be accurate with your placement of things and the keyboard is quick to select items. But for FPS games, driving games, and such, I'd rather use a gaming system.

But I haven't played anything in months.

Share your thoughts on why you prefer PCs over consoles...

Flame if you want...

the keyboard and mouse are superior to any controller on the market 1st of all.

I use my PC for gaming because PC's are far superior for gaming.
1.) Keyboards and mouses are the best controllers for games
2.) PC's have better graphics (currently at least, much bigger textures, antialiasing, etc)
3.) PC games have many many free mods available (and they are just simple downloads and installations)
4.) World of Warcraft is only out on PC
5.) Sound quality can go either way, but high end sound cards produce better, cleaner sound then Consoles. (assuming same speaker setup for both)

In order to get equivalent gaming out of consoles, I'd have to buy both PS3 and Xbox 360, buy a $1000 HDTV, a kickass 5.1 setup (comparable to my Klipsch 5.1 Ultras). It would cost about $3000. I can't do anything other than games.

That's why.

I'll get a PS3 and Xbox 360 later when the price is lower and getting an HDTV is economical (I'm a college student, I'm not carrying around a $600 CRT brick or a $1500 LCD (steal me, please).

one thing i like are mods on pc

say for nba live 06. i can update my roster with a simple download, for xbox i gotta connect to stupid XBlive and get it from EA when they decide to come up with one.

thats just one of many. PC graphics will surpass 360 and PS3 in a few years.

but still i'll get both console and watch for how the revolution plays out. :D

Improved graphics, better choice in controlls, ability to play modded games. There generally better in every area, it's just that PCs cost more...

PC is pretty anti-social. You and three of your buddies aren't going to sit around the monitor to play a game on it.

 No we sit around 1 PC/person. Ever seen a LAN party? Every play a game online, with teamspeak? Hardly anti-social.

WOW, that was snobbish. Playing Halo online or 1 person sucks, but if you have friends with you, it's a brazillion times more fun than any PC FPS online. Don't try to compare playing on one Xbox to a LAN either. Someone can accross my dorm hall (a whopping 10 ft. walk) and play me in Halo, but bringing a PC + monitor is a pain.

Go play a fighting, racing, sports game or platformer and say that again.

A LAN party is hard to set up, and not something you can do just by walking into your friends dorm. You have unplug all of your wires, carry your computer and monitor (which is pretty heavy), set up everything again. This takes like 30 minutes (not including transprotation). In that time, I could already be playing a game. Add this to the fact that you're sitting in a chair (probably not that comfy) instead of a couch. A LAN is so much less casual, and so much more set up (not that this is a bad thing, just different).

Keyboard + Mouse > Controller for me. I have never gotten along with a controller.

I hate TV. Hate.

I like mods and gaming communities, usually.

I like community created content outside of mods...like NWN modules, for example.

I also like to mess with my game settings to extents not possible on consoles, and I like resolutions that consoles cannot provide :p

And I generally just like PC games better.

A true gamer will have all the consoles, pc and other electronic to play video games. So this thread really doesn't matter to me which one is better than the other. ;)

Now I going back to play PAC-Man on my stand alone arcade game, no quarters needed. :D

1) There's this wonderful thing called the Internet. It lets computers that aren't in the same physical area communicate and share pornography. You should try it some time.
2) If you're too much of a lazy fat bastard to heft a PC and monitor around (neither of which are heavy, unless you're carting a 7U server and 21" CRT) then you're probably antisocial by odour alone, nevermind technical affinity.

Consoles tend to be better for certain types of games (racing for example), but when you consider the fact that you can get many of the same games for PC that are released for console, and you can get PC gamepads or USB adapters for console controllers, that almost negates the advantage.

Because of games. from old school to newer releases:
Transport Tycoon, Jagged Alliance, Civilization, Sim City, Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Heroes of Might & Magic, Quake 2, NWN, HL2, WoW, Pirates, WarCraft, AOE BF2, Colin McRae Rally (port), GTR, Elder Scrolls...... just too many to list. Even super old games like Transport Tycoon and Jagged Alliance are incredibly addictive.

Playstation, SNES, GBA, N64 emulators FTW. Console problem solved. All the games I really care to play all run great on a GeForce2. Even net multiplayer capabilities. w00t.

constantly expandably resolution
keyboard and mouse>controller
if it breaks i dont have to buy an entire new one
i can always make it better
if i want custom music, most of the time it can be done; it doesnt have to be programmed into the game
and...
computers kick console's ass

EDIT: one other thing...
(this is supposing I have a good gaming computer, mine is teh sux0rz right now)
Suppose for a minute I didnt have a sweet gaming computer and I was like "hey, i wanna play Quake 4" then I would have to pay a minimum total of $459.98+tax

Now I already have my awesome computer and its only $49.99+tax

To me mutliplaying capability is #1 and the computer utilizes Multiplaying capability the best and the community is the strongest with computer games.

Because I'm married with two young children and it's easier to sneak off into the office to play a few rounds of C-S:S or RTW between checking email and paying bills than it is to occupy the TV in the living room and play games there while my wife and kids sit around waiting to put on Dora The Explorer or HGTV.

Cliffs Notes: We aren't all 16 year olds living at our parents house.

I dont like playing against predictable computers and linear paths to end a game with no replay value. Until consoles incorporate multiplayer well, I won't be buying one. Even then the fan base will be smaller than established PC players.
