If you read the link, it makes a lot of good points...the Daily Show's influence is pretty big right now to the point it is no longer the scrappy underdog but the establishment.

And IMO there is a relationship between the Daily Show and the fact that Democrats have lost a crap-ton of local electoral seats. The Daily Show and its offspring are everywhere and they dominate Late Night now. Colbert is much more political than I remember Letterman or Leno ever being. But they focus on national-level issues which get talked about to death while more down to earth issues on the local level are ignored by Democrats.

The Trump victory. In my opinion, it was because "gay shit" is too high on Democrat's agenda.
 
I remember when the general was asked in the hearings what he thought about gays serving in the military and he said he honestly didn't care who people choose to sleep with. I wish more Conservatives felt that way. Maybe if they did we wouldn't have all this "gay shit" in politics. We have large chunks of the population that react to gays being able to marry like the libs just waged war on their very way of life when if they just didn't give a shit about the things that didn't affect them, then none of us would give a shit.

You do realize that no Chinese society recognizes gay marriage. No Muslim society does. No Russian society. You have to look at the most obscure hidden in the jungle tiny little tribes cut off from the rest of the world to find that happening. Conservatives can't always explain eloquently why norms should be left alone, but often norms exist for good reason.

Anyways, the world as it is has a large contingent of religiously conservative voters who exist and whose opinions matter at the ballot box, and Democrats got carried away with their little crusade and alienated those people who live in crucial swing states.

Perhaps in the case of gays being allowed to marry you can explain it better. 🙂

But then again, I think it is disingenuous to claim the Dems lost because they care too much about social issues when the fact of the matter is their economic track record has blown the Repub presidents track record away. The GDP is up, unemployment is down. Gas prices did not explode as predicted under Obama. Jobs are added every month where as jobs were lost by the boat load under Dubya. You make it sound like the economy just went to complete shit on Obamas watch on account of some over fixation on social issues when in reality the job numbers and the economy actually made strides.

I highly doubt this was the case. It more to do with the ground game by the Trump campaign in several swing states. Most Moderates and Independents could care less about gay issues including gay marriage.

Obama salvaged the economy but he has not been able to make it soar. I do give him credit for that but a great many people suffered in 2008 and they aren't as well informed as you and I. I view the Democrat's social agenda as both distractions and preaching to the choir. Everything has a cost. Obama also has been pretty bad at cajoling the GOP congress. you can argue that it is not his fault, but Bill Clinton managed to work with the GOP congress probably because he had been a former governor and also because he is white and is better at ingratiating himself with other white politicians. Obama would run into the wall and just stay there, not working to get past it.

Reagan for instance never agreed with the Democrats in Congress, but they liked him. I can't say the same for Obama. I voted Obama btw but I've always thought this was a weakness of his which was problematic for governing.
