If you read the link, it makes a lot of good points...the Daily Show's influence is pretty big right now to the point it is no longer the scrappy underdog but the establishment.

And IMO there is a relationship between the Daily Show and the fact that Democrats have lost a crap-ton of local electoral seats. The Daily Show and its offspring are everywhere and they dominate Late Night now. Colbert is much more political than I remember Letterman or Leno ever being. But they focus on national-level issues which get talked about to death while more down to earth issues on the local level are ignored by Democrats.

The daily show? The same daily show whose viewership is down 35+% from when Jon Stewart was hosting it? The same daily show who has maybe a million viewers?

You aren't too bright are you? Go back to your bubble bub.

You do realize that no Chinese society recognizes gay marriage. No Muslim society does. No Russian society. You have to look at the most obscure hidden in the jungle tiny little tribes cut off from the rest of the world to find that happening. Conservatives can't always explain eloquently why norms should be left alone, but often norms exist for good reason.
Great!! Let's all become Chinese Russian Muslims because they have high standards LOL.

Anyways, the world as it is has a large contingent of religiously conservative voters who exist and whose opinions matter at the ballot box, and Democrats got carried away with their little crusade and alienated those people who live in crucial swing states.

So, you're saying you are a Commie at heart ?

Gay marriage is legal in the US, not sure what rock you hide under on a regular basis.

Most of those areas do not look much like remote tribes in a jungle.

Obviously all of this occurred in the last 20 years and as a result of Christian liberalism. Hundreds of years of European history gay marriage did not exist, Roman history, Chinese history etc so this recent blip doesn't prove anything except contemporary trends.

Better be moving your butt elsewhere if it bothers you that much and you live in a blue area.

I'm not an advocate myself, the third wife and I have been married 23 years, but you're just over the top.

Have had many gay friends over time that were very cool.

I know a gay married guy at my work and yeah, whatever. But my point was that one factor which has led to this Trump presidency is culture wars waged by the left. Like, I remember watching Chris Hayes dismiss Kim Davis as someone who used to be a Democrat but now should be a GOP voter because of her social issues. HRC should have been working for Kim Davis vote and if she could have gotten it likely would be president now.

I guess the blip of time that's had slavery being outlawed in human history is just a contemporary trend, too, and should be looked at as another culture war against conservatives, right? Or basic human equality without regards to skin color, another thing conservatives decried when it was instituted...again, I suppose, another contemporary trend foisted upon conservatives through culture wars.

Strom Thurmond felt much the same, I'm sure.

LOL. Homosexuality is not black slavery.

Notice how non-white societies which are not colonized and which the natives actually rule their territory and make decisions for themselves...are largely opposed to the LGBT agenda? Ethiopia has an atrocious LGBT rights record. It is also the only African country never colonized by Europeans. In that little map, South Africa and with its large Dutch minority is the only African country with LGBT rights.

It's pretty typical actually to see liberals equating their way with slavery, lacking the mental flexibility to see otherwise. Quite doctrinaire.

This reminds me of that Citizen Kane moment where Kane is warned that he won't like it when the working man really gets to voice his opinion. It should be obvious that LGBT rights are largely a phenomena of white european christian societies.

No, it proved that when it mattered, before the Supreme Court, conservatives couldn't produce a single reasoned argument for there being a state interest in denying homosexuals their rights under the Constitution. After centuries of sodomy laws and the rest of their legal rubbish, when called on the carpet, the conservatives had nothing.

So, yesterday gay marriage only existed in "obscure hidden in the jungle tiny little villages" and today it is the opposite ?

:p

Anyway, back on topic.

Not true. Obergefall was a 5-4 decision. The 4 dissenting votes had arguments against gay marriage. If Obama were not president, Obergefall would never have happened.

They weren't reasoned arguments. Thomas produced a bizarre defense of Jim Crow and Scalia just tipped a bin of ideological rubbish onto the page.

I dunno, saying that Supreme Court justices aren't making reasoned arguments is fairly absurd. They are Supreme Court justices and you are not.

I would suggest you actually go read Scalia's opinion. It reads like a post someone on here would write. He basically ranted about the court imposing its will on America when he's had no problem with doing that himself in the past and ranted about the court recognizing new protections in the constitution...despite doing that in the past.

I for one loved reading his dissent because you could tell that bigoted old piece of shit was so absolutely apoplectic with rage that he couldn't even think or wrote coherently anymore.

While claiming that it was an important issue in the election when both candidates accept gay marriage-

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/donald-trump-same-sex-marriage-231310

Mindless right wing tribalism & an enormous interlocking propaganda campaign from Repubs & Russians were the real issues. And it worked to tear down a sincere, hard working & highly qualified candidate in favor of a demagogue & an astounding charlatan.

Trump is the ultimate villain. You couldn't write a better villain in a Hollywood movie. The hair, the personality, the fetish with gold, and the sons. LOL this country is turning into a joke thanks to the flyover states. The Republican base couldn't elect a decent human being like John McCain. They end up with Donald Trump.

Personally, I probably would have voted for McCain.

But this is where we are.
