I never understood the appeal of soccer however. Why run around for 90min and score maybe 1 time, that is LAME. Especially considering how HUGE the freaking goals are.

Because every goal is so difficult to come, they are more meaningful and require quite bit of talent and teamwork to attain it. I love the anticipation of goal and the jubilation that follows when it comes. Even if the scoring is minimal I can follow the play and appreciate it because goals aren't the only exciting part of soocer, imo.

Secondly, football players are much more athletic than soccer players. Anyone can run. But can you run, get tackled, then get back up and do it again? I guarantee that a soccer player would be broken by the end of the game.

Football players wear pads. Soccer players don't, yet they get tackled and undercut in ways that are major penalties (clipping, chop blocks, etc) in football where the players are protected by pads. Take your argument and come back as a rugby fan and I'll listen.

I've played both sports. They are both heavy contact. I've gotten hurt much worse playing soccer (flipped over in mid air by opposing player and almost broke back, got kicked in head when I fell near ball) than I did playing football (broken knuckles and slightly cracked rib on tackles). I got back up from those two football tackles. The times I got hurt in soccer I almost didnt make it back. And I'm ignoring the dozens of shin, ligament & knee injuries I've suffered.

Football players might have more muscle, but soccer players have hella more stamina and endurance. Also people seem to underestimate the mental aspect of the game. Just catch one of those European games and see the different types of shots, passes, lobs those players pull off, and try to emulate it yourself. It's not so easy.

I think you confuse the football that most people play with the football that you see on TV. Growing up, there was never a 5 minute break between plays for beer comercials, you don't have pads to wear and you don't have different players for offense/defense. You also don't have the strict rules that exist in the NFL.

The football that most people play, such as "kill the man" is very similar to rugby.

I've asked a few of my cousins why they play and the majority of the time the answer I hear is "because it is cool." Umm, ok I suppose. A couple of them have even told me they like football or baseball better but that those aren't cool sports to play. WTF?

never left your home state , huh....

Damn straight, rugby is for real men. Soccer is for those that are too tough for North American style football and think soccer is for pansies.

I'm just doing a bit of trolling here though. Soccer is good for cardio and yes, there is some contact in the sport, but it's not as tough as some would have you believe. I think basketball is a pansy sport as well and the physical contact in soccer is about on par with that.

Then you've played soccer with a bunch of wimps. I've seen broken noses, broken collarbones, and broken legs. And that was just playing in a travelling league during high school. But continue to live with your fantasy that football is for real men if it makes feel more manly.

It's easy to get broken noses, collarbones, and legs when you're 6' 130 lbs.

Soccer- for pansies in the US

Rugby- for real men in Europe

(European) football aka soccer- for pansies in Europe

Keep in mind that I used to play soccer, but that was before I started working out, discovered Football and became a Man.

i just spent 2 weeks in costa rica and it was amazing how even the most rural towns have beautifully maintained soccer fields. i'm talking people living in shacks and not even having running water, but they have competition type grass fields

i saw kids playing before school, on the way to school, during school, and after school. it's really all they do.

it just re-inforced the fact that where you grow up clearly influences your love of soccer...it's all they know

If you cant appreciate the exciting comback that Man Utd has here, youll never understand soccer

I understand it, I used to play soccer, it was a good comeback, but I still like football better.

No offense, but it seems that the geekier people get, the more they shy away from activities viewed as too physical. I played soccer, I can still play soccer, and I'd be more than happy to get on a soccer field with anyone on here because I like getting exercize. I won't be the best since it's been a while, but I'm naturally fast and I have good stamina because I run all the time.

There's that ePenis again. Why do you wave that thing around so much? I'm starting to think you like football just because you like the thought of a bunch of big, sweaty men in a circle jerk.....errr.... huddle.

You don't need to superimpose your (correct) feelings of inferiority on me. I'll play football and I'll play soccer. I used to be on the tennis team, too, and I know it's not exactly a manly sport, but I like playing it anyway.

Most of the people on this forum are extremely unmuscular and unathletic. It stands to reason that they won't excel at any sport, let alone football.

Just because you pick the least manly sport by default doesn't mean that a more athletic man won't still beat you at it.

That's damn straight. Read my post again as well, I never said that football was a tough sport. I said soccer wasn't, that is all. ;)

I'm not superimposing anything on you. You're the one who equates American football with manliness. Apparently you feel the need to make up for inadequacies in other areas.

People like myself who can actually please a woman don't have to brag about a sport making us "more manly".

Maybe you should give these folks a call. http://www.enzyte.com

Damn straight. I can play just about any sport I choose fairly well. I've played football, soccer, baseball and essentially rugby (football without pads, full tackle, 12+ people on the field, etc.) and wrestling. Wrestling is by far the hardest sport of the three. Yeah, go ahead and make some short sighted, homophobic comment about two men rolling around in tight blah, blah, blah.....but you're just showcasing your own femininity by doing so. Think you're in good shape from playing soccer? Step into a wrestling practice and I guaran-damn-tee that you'll be winded and crying for mommy within the first 10 minutes and that's before the physical contact of the sport even begins.

Unless you're an Ironman, you really have no room to say any other sport is not tough.

FYI, the guy that broke his collarbone was about 5'6", 180. But again, 91TTZ has certain other... inadequacies that he has to make up for. Believing that only skinny wimps play soccer is his way of fooling himself into believing he's a man.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the guy who broke his collarbone also played high school football. I guess those 130 pound wimps can kick pretty hard.

So those lardass defensive linemen are what you call athletic? I guess in America where gluttony and a fat ass seems to be the norm, that sounds about right.
