In the case of N'Sync, BSB, 98 Degrees, LFO, and all the other bands that were produced by the same heartless company, they do only get about $2 on average per CD sold. It's because the company has fashion coordinators, lyricists, musicians, song writers, PR consultants, execs, their own plane/crew, etc...the group didn't form on their own. They were put together and then contracted out. But regardless of how much money they make from album sales, think of where their true money comes from...MTV, commercials, magazines, sponsors, tours, memorbilia! Remember all those kids in the 80s who had New Kids lunch boxes? there's your answer. Just look on a E*ay and you tell me where they get their money

Some of their music may have a good intent, but people appreciate artists who make music for the sake of music, not money. Now they may have grown to the point where they make the music for the sake of artistry, that's not for me to say. But when they all so blatantly do only what sells, it speaks for itself. Everyone has different tastes, and that should be respected. I just don't want my taste and preferences to be formed or influenced by Pepsi, 1-800-collect, MTV, and the like.

Most of what you said I have no problem with, except for the part about them being manufactured. NSync, BSB, and 98 Degrees started on their own. I have posted the full stories countless times here before, I honestly don't feal like typing it again, you can serach for it if you like.

um... BS about NSYNC joining on their own. As I recall they had a manager with an idea for a boy band(who they intern fired once they made it 'big'). A couple of years back their was a big special about it on MTV, and how they needed to find a tenor, and and bass, and yada yada yada. These guys weren't friends before this. Most of them didn't even live in the same damn state. For a guy who says he knows more about boy bands you need to get your facts straight compadre.

Regardless of the act, it is tough for a musician to make money off of album sales due to the money hungry record industry. The real money is made in touring and merchandising, but NSYNC and the BSBs spend more money then they make on tour because of the size of their shows and the "glamour" that they portray. The bottom line is whatever NSYNC makes they have to divided it up ten fold what an artist who constructs their views from the ground up does. Like I said, anyone can sing and dance, but nut just anybody can write hundreds of songs over a career that are successful. I mean MTV even exploited the ludicracy of the boy bands with their "2ge+her." They had two #1 single and they were a joke, i mean come on, how much more proof do you need? Just because you sell records doesn't mean you are successful. If that was the case MC Hammer wouldn't be a joke. i am not trying to get you to change the fact that you like boy bands, that is just an opinion that you have and I feel that 10 years down the road you will be kicking yourself in the ass for.

So you are a DJ huh? So what does the DJing world think of your infatuation with boy bands? All the DJ's I have ever met would kick your ass for just putting your name in the DJing pool. I too am a DJ at a local night club, and create mixes and what not. I have NEVER heard a decent DJ say that he looked up to bands like NSYNC and BSBs. YOu see most DJs are into hip-hop/techno/trance/industrial because that is where the DJing roots come from. You know, REAL acts like Underworld, BT, Massive Attack, KMFDM, Moby, Fatboy Slim, the Crystal Method, and so on and so forth.

Next, if I say I skydive are you going to try to outdue me by saying you jump without a chute? you don't have to lie to make friends. oh wait, maybe you do.

<< unixfreak, no, I said you insinuated it. And when you made the first comment, I'm sure you had intended to say what you just said, about how "you never said it". You said "maybe they even have a hetero one out there" or something like that, and in the context it was in, well, you know what you said. Also, you said that I subscribe to "teen hunk". Go away. >>

People all over this thread have said things such as that.

Here's an example I have from scrolling up a bit "If you're a guy, you have problems".

Obviously a sign of homo-phobia.

Svperstarr,
Believe me, they're making money. Britney Spears jsut bought a multi-million dollar house, and I'm sure the NSync guys aren't doing much worse. Also, I also fail to believe that they aren't making money on their tour. Granted, their's is more expensive to put on, but it's compensated by the sponsors of the tour and the higher ticket prices. They make millions on their tours, and to think otherwise would be naive. Also, how do you think DMB makes money on their tours? They too have to divide their earnings between the 5 band members (sometimes 8 if they bring the backup singers), producers, promoters, etc. The fact remains that tickets at $40 times 20,000 people times about 40 shows equals approximately $32,000,000, and that isn't even the average price for a ticket.

<< um... BS about NSYNC joining on their own >>

You are 100% incorrect. They formed on their own. I garuntee you I know more about pop than you. They formed on their own, and Pearlman picked them up after that. Way to go Mr. Music Industry. I already said that I'm not typing the story again, you can search if you want to know the truth. Or you can keep on believing false information. See what I care.

<< So you are a DJ huh? So what does the DJing world think of your infatuation with boy bands? All the DJ's I have ever met would kick your ass for just putting your name in the DJing pool >>

I'm a mainstream DJ, genius. You know, there obviously are millions of people that like pop, so wouldn't it make sense that MAYBE there are DJ's that play their music? Did it occur to you that there are different format DJ's? No, I guess not. Good job again, Mr. Music Industry.

<< Next, if I say I skydive are you going to try to outdue me by saying you jump without a chute? you don't have to lie to make friends. oh wait, maybe you do. >>

What are you talking about? You wanna say I'm not a DJ? Well, Mr. Junior Member, I have posted some beatmixes here in the past. Guess you weren't here to see them. So I suppose you're completely wrong if you think I'm lying about that. Ask other people here, they heard them. I suppose you think I'm lying that I sing, too. Well, once again, you weren't here when I posted songs, too bad for you. Who says YOU aren't the one lying?

<< jee, you are awful sensitive, true sign of a.... nevermind. >>

You're annoying.

svperstarr, you WERE making some decent arguments, but now you've lost all hope. I'd suggest you go to my Boyband Bashing thread I started, you can post all the crap you want there, I'm not going to see it.

You aint seen nothin yet.

<< Whatever, I shouldn't even acknowledge pointless replies like these with no factual basis OR validity from now on. >>

So when does this start?

Deeko, until you turn on the light, you will never see the doorknob, which is the only way out of the closet.

I think these people are only trying to get you riled up. Its mean, but its working. Take it easy, man. The Boys will be ok, without your rigorous defense.

Deeko, you know you're boy bands aren't as popular as you'd like to think. Pop is only about 10% of the US market. 10%, that's pretty low. The biggest percentage is rock, then that's followed by Country, Rap/HipHop, R&B/Urban, and then Pop (in that order for '99) Your precious boys are in the *5th* best selling genre in music. How popular is that. Here's some more information for you. I thought they'd be at the top right? Wait no, somehow there's real musicians filling the top spots. Just because MTV doesn't need to market real music to the teen crowd doesn't mean they don't sell CDs.

That's cool that you like them, maybe you'll change you mind in a few years like all those former newkid's fans. However, they are not the most popular group in the country, hardly even near the top. They market a product heavily combined with their image that is not purely music, many people don't like that. Nsync only has a few years left in which they can appeal to the 14yr old girls, enjoy them while they last. They'll only get pushed off the top of the boyband throne by other pop groups, and will show up in some Vh1 where are they now special years after that.

lol, that was actually pretty funny.

Most people are just kidding, but some people(like svperidiot or whatever his name is) are just jealous or something. I've noticed that alot of people in the music biz here don't like boybands, no offense to them, but it could very well be because they are more succesful.

Capn, I've seen that list before. Consider the fact that those other groups have been around alot longer. They have had more time to sell. And look at the SPEED in which pop sells records. I believe nsync holds the record for highest in one week with No Strings Attached. One reason pop tends to "die" fast is because there are many more pop groups out there than anything else. Not all pop groups completely lose popularity, my parents listen to some old radio station and they still play the Monkees, are they not like the first boyband? I don't know that much about old music, so correct me if I'm wrong. I am well aware that pop is not the highest selling music in the country, and I like rap, r&b, and dance just as much as I do pop. But those other genres don't need any defense here, plenty of people will back them up. But there are a scarce few people who defend pop here, and they get a worse rap than they deserve.

lol unixfreak, the only reason I was talking about mainstream before was because svperidiot was saying that NIN is mainstream, which they obviously are not.
