You should buy one because of Apple's close ecosystem. Take great hardware, add slick software, and seamless integration with your computer. I used to work for RIM and I was never able to sync my media/info as easily as I do on the iPhone. It's literally plug it and forget. Calander, Contact, Music, Video it's all going to be there when I unplug. It just works! :)

-Lack of a keyboard is terrible. I sent thousands of texts and emails from my phone...no keyboard = no go.

-Lack of MMS is just plain stupid. Every FREE camera phone on the market the last 4 years can do this. Email does NOT just make this go away - not everyone out there is a computer nerd like the people here (cue the responses that getting email on your phone isn't hard....yes it is. cue the responses that you can send an email to xxx-xxx-xxxx@tmomail.com and get the same effect. Yea, because that's convenient and not a huge pain in the ass)

-Lack of cut-and-paste is annoying

-AT&T forces you into overpriced plans

-Closed system limits the potential of the device

-No expandable memory

Now, I was a big time iPhone hater the first generation, and with good reason. It lacked pretty much ALL of the advanced features of other smartphones, while charging a big premium. They fixed a lot of this with the 3G version - although its still lacking a lot of stuff, they did add a lot of big features they lacked (3G, GPS, Exchange) and halved the price. However, I still wouldn't buy one.

I've had 2 Windows Mobile, 1 Blackberry, and 1 Symbian phone. I never had ANY sync problems with any of them.

When I tried to use the Blackberry browser to view a wikipedia page, it was barely readable, because an image forced all of the text into a narrow column on the left side of the screen. Even after I scrolled past that, the page was more difficult to read and navigate than on the iPhone.

I think it's funny that when the iPhone came out it was bashed as a gimmick. Now that every other cell phone company is making iPhone knock-offs, the Apple bashers think the knock-offs are the greatest thing since sliced bread. The iPhone isn't perfect, but it's pretty great.

Opera Mini handles webpages much better than the native Blackberry browser.

I have no issues doing that, but you have to watch what you're typing (no tactile feedback). It's actually pretty good at figuring out typos once you train it.

I had the 650 with Palm OS and now an 800 with Windows Mobil 6.1. I never used VersaMail when I had my 650. There are so many free apps for the Treo there is no reason to use the built in apps IMO.

Yup. Unless you need all the services, it's a lot to pay every month.

To be fair, the price is no different than any other voice + data plan from the other providers

Are you insane? I have voice+data from Sprint and it is no where near $80/month.

Hey you don't like it great, don't use it. Like I said, there are sooo many free apps for the Treo out there, and they are easy to use. Make a Treo bashing thread if you want, this is an iPhone bashing thread. :p

I don't pay for apps, if you do, well, maybe you're special.

Haha i don't, thus my point. You have to spend money to get decent email capability on the palm treo...that being said, it's still miles ahead of windows mobile. I've had winmo device even before they called it winMo (windows CE ) and at no point did MSFT spend more than 2 mins trying to think how people will use them.

No you don't. You don't like the apps, plenty of people do. You don't have to spend money. There are plenty of free, easy to use apps.

But honestly, I don't care what phone you use. You sound sort of bitter.

I too prefer the treo with the keypad on the front. I ventured away from it for my XV6800 and sliding the phone open is such a hassle (because the screen turns too). After many efforts, I've decided on-screen keys suck donkey balls. You can't beat a nice, real, set of keys out in front when you just need to get to something or type something quick.

Oh no doubt there's a ton of free apps, but my point was that you need to spend money to get decent essential apps especially in email... unless there's been some new development in the past year.

See this thread.

BTW, I went from a Palm Pilot, to a Palm IV, to a Kyocera 6035, to a Kyocera 7135, to a Treo 650 to my iPhone.

I absolutely love my iPhone, warts and all.

I totally disagree. I have EIGHT pages of useful apps on my iPhone (OK, SIX pages of useful apps and two pages of "useful" games) and I only paid for one (SplashID - a carry over from my Treo days).

Oh that was for palm os, not iphone. I haven't paid for anything on my iphone, courtesy of Cydia.

My faves so far are PDANet, hp12c (for my finance classes) and wifitoggle

I thought t-zones were like 6 bucks and real unlimited internet was 29.99?

I had an unlocked 1g iphone on tmobile with the 6bucks tzone hack, much cheaper than ATT at the time :)
