:p I always jarr out at that, the guy is hilarious.

I know that's mostly satire, but most of the things the page says you can do you actually can. Recording voice, rebooting machines/restarting services, etc.

What you can't do with the other phones is pull up an Opentable app, get a list of all the restaurants within a short distance, get all available reservation times, menus, reviews, etc. and make a reservation all on your phone. There are countless examples of things like this where the iPhone just reigns supreme.

don't get an iphone if you never plan on listening to music on your phone. Nothing matches the media capabilities or web browser on the iphone.

Ns1, $40 for tmo internet is without voice. once you add voice the internet price will drop to $20.

although if you get the G1 the lowest "data" package you can get is $25, and is bundled with 400 text messages. must have voice plan too though

Interesting.

w/e, I'm gonna see if the BB Storm is any good, and if it is I'm getting that; if not I'm probably getting an oldschool voice only phone

the iPhone keyboard is a killer for me, I don't care about all the other drawbacks

Eh, I don't really listen to music that often on my iPhone. For me, it's about the apps. Nothing touches the quality of the apps that are available. Obviously the interface makes them that much better, but some of the things I use:

1) Real-time flight status information
2) Real-time reservation and review information for restaurants in the vicinity
3) Real-time gas prices
4) Real-time traffic information
5) Real-time weather information, breakdown by the hour, etc.
6) Games. This is the first phone where I actually play the games when I'm not just sitting on a plane or something. The games are really starting to be full-featured and fun.

I haven't read any of the other replies you've made, but have you worked with the keyboard for any length of time? It's extremely annoying at first, but you adapt and can easily start typing as fast as you otherwise would. The lack of tactile feedback does suck, but even coming from a Dash I was able to get used to it.

I sound like an Apple fanboy. :(

I tried it for half an hour and wanted to stab myself in the face, so that's pretty much the extent of it lol

I thought the same thing when a co worker let me spent some time with his first gen iPhone. Once he told me the secret, I found it tolerable. Now, I love it

I need to look at the bb storm (I have verizon and am eligible to upgrade phones in a few weeks) but will probably just wait for my contract to expire so I can get the iPhone. Whats going to suck is by the time I get my 3G iPhone Apple will announce an updated phone weeks later and I'll be stuck with old tech for 2 years.

Now, I was a big time iPhone hater the first generation, and with good reason. It lacked pretty much ALL of the advanced features of other smartphones, while charging a big premium. They fixed a lot of this with the 3G version - although its still lacking a lot of stuff, they did add a lot of big features they lacked (3G, GPS, Exchange) and halved the price. However, I still wouldn't buy one.

QFT. exactly.

and the biggest reason is that AT&T charges you up the wall for the iphone 3G. i would have bought it if you didnt have to get a contract with AT&T/you could unlock it to tmobile.

Yup. Unless you need all the services, it's a lot to pay every month.

To be fair, the price is no different than any other voice + data plan from the other providers

Are you insane? I have voice+data from Sprint and it is no where near $80/month.

sigh

I shouldn't be doing this but...

Sprint: Everything Data: 70 bucks/month, unlimited data + 450min
VZW: PDA/Smartphone Nationwide Email: Monthly access starting at $79.99
TM: Internet: 40, Voice, starts at 30 = 70

ATT: Data + 450 = 70 bucks

Thanks for playing.

(SERO doesn't count, thanks)

I have been a Sprint customer since 2001. I have 500 minutes and unlimited data. I pay about $65/month with taxes.

Someone else posted the prices, and I don't see why you're saying this. With T-mobile you'd get 600 minutes + unlimited data for $40+$25. With AT&T it's $40+$30 for 450+unlimited data. T-mobile is a slightly better deal, but it's hardly a difference worth fretting about.

Buying plans online is silly. You can get much better deals if you walk into the store. You can also get deals for being with a company for a while and not changing companies every year because XYZ company has your plan for $2 less.

Me too. The fact that it's now the best selling phone in the US speaks volumes.

Not really. The Razr held that crown for a long time and it was garbage. Its proof that people go with form over function - the Razr was strikingly more attractive than other phones at the time, but feature wise, it is subpar.

You might be able to say that with the Razr, but that is no where near the case with the iPhone. It's full of function, and every manufacturer is trying to duplicate it. The fact that it hasn't been out 2 years, and is now the top dog, is amazing.

I said in my first post that they addressed a lot of the feature issues with the 3G version, but the original iPhone was PURELY on form, and it sold like hotcakes.

not really. There wasn't a massive change in the 2 phones.

For functionality, there is no phone that beats the ease of use on the iphone. The only ones that come close are ones that use the same setup. Is it missing features? Of course, but so is every other phone out there. It comes down to what you use it for.

The email is terrible for business users, but the media/browser/apps beat any other phone out there.

If you conned your parents into buying all this:

Mobile Devices: HTC Touch Pro on Sprint SERO 500 | iPod Touch 16GB (2G)
Game Consoles: PS3 60GB | Nintendo Wii
Desktop: Q9450 2.66Ghz @ 3.6Ghz | Asus P5Q Deluxe | GTX260 896MB | 2x2GB DDR2-1000 | Dell 2407WFP (A04) | XP Pro SP3
HTPC: Xeon 3060 2.4Ghz @ 3.6Ghz | Asus P5W DH Deluxe | 8800GTS 320MB | 2x1GB DDR2-800 | Sony VPL-VW100 1080p Projector | XP Pro SP3

Then why not also con them into buying the phone you want?

Oh...
