i cant believe france does not support us in attacking iraq. i mean we bailed them out twice in the two bloodiest wars ever. why cant they return a small favor and lend us a hand??? last time they helped the US was over 300 years ago in our revolution....

Well, maybe you were only repaying your debt to the French in WW1 and WW2. Like you said, they helped you get your independence. You could say that you are now even 😉.

When you're dealing with the potential loss of thousands of human lives, loyalty should have nothing to do with it. It's about doing the right thing. We should not pursue aggression against Iraq until it is unequivocally clear that they posess WOMD. Notice how most of the world agrees.

even??? i think we more than tipped the scales when our boys died on THEIR beaches to free them. it makes me sick to know my grandfather was shot 3 times on omaha for a country that wont give us a hand now.(he survived obiously, 1 round in the leg, 1 in the arm, 1 skimmed the side of his head and he has no hearing in his left ear.)

So because you helped them 60 years ago, they should help you now? That's your argument basically? How come you demand compensation for your assistance in WW2 (in WW1 the French did most of the fighting), yet you refuse to acknowledge the part of the French in your independence-war?

When was the last time you step your foot in France ? our economy is bad, theirs is super bad, they can't afford to support us. Dont blame them

Maybe France doesn't believe in a war against Iraq at this juncture? After all they have been trading freely with Iraq for some time. Is it in their strategic interests to mess with that relationship? Besides, the French government hates America by default. And America-bashing is how their latest leader got elected after all.

Ah I see, so you would just have them follow blindly anything the U.S. would want to do in the world arena? I think not. It was that kind of thinking that got us into world war one. The French are a free people and can think for themselves. Do a little research into French Politics and try to find out WHY the French - Germans - Chinese - Russian have begun to disagree how we're going about this whole thing.

Let's say that France had saved OUR asses in WWII. Tomorrow they decide to invade Japan. Should we help them?

Is Japan in defiance of UN resolution after starting and losing a war? Is Japan acquiring chemical and biological weapons and has a nuclear weapons program?

If that is the case, then yes.

Why do we need the assistance or the approval of france.

France just sent troops down into africa where there are few problems popping up. Did France consult the US or the UN before going? NO.

Should we try to the stop them if the cause is just?

That is completely beside the point. The point is that we don't go to war just because some other country asks us to.

In this hypothetical case, France thinks the cause is just, but the USA doesn't. Should we help them anyway? I mean, they saved our asses in WWII, we can shoot some Japanese people for them.

That is the point. The defiance of the UN resolutions. The NBC weapons programs. The willingness of France to ignore it. The question is- why is France so willing to ignore it?

What if they decided to invade Israel instead of Japan? Israel has nukes and they are in violation of several UN resolutions.

We are not entitled to help them.

No, the topic is about France owing it to us to go to war, it has absolutely nothing to do with Iraq at all.
