I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Disabling UAC is one of the most ill thought out decisions you can make; the same goes for using a root account in Linux or beginning a OSX terminal session with "sudo".

So, I should leave UAC on because I might run into someone like you that loves to mess with other people's stuff? I've been running Windows 7... pretty much since it came out, and I've never had a problem with turning UAC off. Why? Because I'm not very trusting when it comes to executing code! I don't just download some .reg or .bat file off the net and execute it because someone says it will fix my problems; I open it up and read it!

What are you going to scold me for next... turning off Windows Firewall? :\

I really DID not like Windows 8 when it first came out, but after the 8.1 update, Classic Shell, restoring quick launch, and several other tweaks, it is totally usable and stable on my computer. I only see Metro or any app if I choose to look at them (and that rarely happens).

when you get drive-by-download malware, UAC won't warn you that it has taken over your PC.

I've been using Windows 8 for over 2 years now, probably the most trouble free experience I ever had, 7 is not to far, but 8 feels a lot smoother, apart from the start screen I quite like the visual style and UI in general, the task manager and win explorer are far better on 8,

hiding the safe mode as much as they did was a bad call,

Since my Windows rig is for gaming only, I made mine so it functions just like SteamOS. I stripped Windows 7 Basic x64 to bare bones leaving just over 4 gig install footprint. Delayed the startup of Explorer.exe so when it boots, it goes directly to Steam big screen mode without ever seeing the desktop. I had it disabled but once a blue moon I need to use the file browser to tweak something so I delayed it instead as apposed to launching it manually. Though I could probably put a link to it in Steam, not sure. Actually launches faster than Steam OS currently and W8 for that matter.
So I call it a Windows Distro...as apposed to Linux Distro I guess. I quit using W8.1, I couldn't strip it down as much to save room for more game installs and for use only as a background platform for Steam, it had no purpose.
