Ok.. you don't live in the same part of America that all this gun violence is happening in.
I often wonder why so many posters here chose to live in those places where they feel the need to be armed all the time
The thought of having to be armed to go outside just doesn't exist where I live.
It's a totally foreign concept to me that a lot of posters here have to deal with everyday
I feel the same about fire extinguishers, first aid kits, smoke detectors, jumper cables, spare keys, etc...yet everywhere I go people have these things. Then I remember that it's a reasonably small cost and annoyance for some of those, and IF they're ever needed they're good to have, so I nod on go on about my day.
Firearms are essentially the same in many regards. We don't 'have to be armed to go outside'. We choose to be prepared in the event we ever need that particular tool.
For example, where I live the crime rate is fairly low (MUCH lower than say, the UK overall). I still carry absolutely every day, and doing so has saved me from crime/harm at least once, and been a reassurance a number of times. I therefore consider it worth the tradeoff to be prepared 'just in case'.
