Why is it so difficult for Christians to accept that Jesus was Black?

I met Jesus Christ at a gas station the other day. He was cool.

I asked him if he had change for a $5 but he only had it in quarters so I said no.

Then I told him good bye and got his number.

Should I call him?

As a christian, I can tell you that He wasn't white. At the very least His skin is the color that you see almost exclusively in people living in that present day area. Not that it matters what His skin color was.

i saw a program on either national geographic or Discovery channel or something liek that about a tribe of black people in africa. this tribe was recently discovered. for some reason, researchers thought that this was a tribe of Jewish people. so they did some genetic testing on them. Turns out that this tribe of dark skinned people were in fact identical genetically to Jews, meaning that they did descend from Jewish people. so this idea isn't too far-fetched. remember though. with God, all things are possible.

note: didn't bother reading other posts

ummmm everyone go watch Dogma by kevin smith

should give everyone a new perspective on xianity and be more tolerant or if ur a really way to uptight ull get pissed but eh

"Standing there in your Jesus Christ Pose":Soundgarden.

It doesn't bother me if he's black, or from and alien race,or looks like George Burns(used to look!).

He loves us all,I just want him to look with favor on me,mine, and theirs.

I'll bet he can really jam on 'lectric guitar, too. After all, He's GOD!

Dude, who cares? I'm a Christian and to tell you the truth, this is the first time it's come into my mind for as long as I can remember. Yeah I'm white, so what if he was dark skinned? That doesn't mean anything to me. He could be hot pink for all it matters...

Yeah, jewish history says that when the tribes went their different ways, one of them went to africa. The discovery would be support for this historical theory.

There were 13 Apostles and the Thirteenth one was Black and his name was Rufus. I saw it in a Movie called Dogma. God is also a Woman.

nnnyyy

dont take this offensively or anything but just think about it.

about 2000 years back, can you think of any persons in the middle east/africa who were caucasian in color? If you know your history you will know that most people in that genre are classified as what is termed commonly 'black' today.

<< i think maria carey is hotter.... but that's just because she acts trashier... really, i'd do both of them. >>

Despite that post belonging nowhere near this thread, I have to say that post made the most sense out of all of them.

It's one thing to say you accept the idea that Jesus was dark-skinned, it's another to really accept it. You draw a black Jesus in one of those My Bible Story books or Precious Moments Bibles, I can guarantee you the sales on those books will drop precipitously.

First off, ancient Egypt was not Nubian black for most of it's early history. In fact, they were olive skinned folks in ancient Egypt. No, they weren't blond haired and blue eyed or fair skinned, but they were far from sub Saharan black Nubians.

It wasn't until quite late in ancient Egypt's history that very dark skinned Nubians started mixing with the native Egyptians. For thousands of years, the Nubian culture and Egyptian culture were quite separate.

Not only is this depicted in ancient writings of other cultures, but by the Egyptian hieroglyphs as well. Most of the later wall paintings show many different shades of color on people from light olive, to dark Nubian. Most of the earlier paintings show a consistant dark olive color.

Moreover, most mummies found have had slightly wavy, loosely curly or straight black to medium brown hair. Few have had the tight curly, woolly hair common to sub Saharan Africa. Even more compelling is that their bone structure is not indicative of sub Saharan Africans.

Secondly, all cultures create gods in their own image. White people have white gods, olive people have olive skinned gods, Asian people have Asian gods, and black people have black skinned gods. We are more comfortable with a god that looks like us. It's no mystery here, and it has nothing to do with white or any other color supremacy.

Jesus has been depicted as just about every race and color on Earth. I've even seen Asian depictions of him.

There was such a mix of races and colors in Israel at the time Jesus supposedly lived, that no one can be sure of what he looked like. One thing can be sure, though... He was not blond haired and blue eyed. If he existed, he was most likely olive skinned with dark curly hair.

He wasnt black, the way this thread progressed seems to me that you want something to argue about.

So then, if it doesn't matter what he looked like then why not make him black?

if it doesnt matter then why bother the argument. If you choose to have a black Christ on your wall more power to you.

So long as our culture pictures Adam, Eve, Moses, Jesus, Mary, the Apostles, and even God "himself" as fair-skinned folk, despite the obvious
preposterousness of such representations

Ive never seen a picture of God much less one of a white God, oh you mean the shining light that is used to represent him or the burning bush oh ok yeah I can see how you see a white man in the burning bush. If you have a picture of God then scan it and post a link, I would be very interested in seeing him.

The bible says he was olive skinned, maybe he was an alien? green olives? Given the locale I believe he was darker skinned, Im sorry I do not believe that he was what we consider black today. I do know that he did great things and that frankly it doesnt matter what color he was or is. He died for my sins and loves me and will welcome me into heaven when I die.

we will continue to plant the seeds of racial supremacism in the hearts and minds of millions of people..

Making up words?
Sounds like you are one of the hearts and minds that got it wrong.
You you feel racially inferior because of a painting? Or it just bothers you that some people cant accept the fact that he wasnt blonde hair blue eyes? You wont stop until everyone on earth accepts that Jesus is BLACK. I got news for you when you see him on that day your crusade still wont be accomplished. Your hindering your own progress.

Jesus is whatever you want him to be, God exists in everyone. When I walk into heaven, see that he has a good tan and isnt white Im not gonna argue the point, get pissed, and take the escalator to hell to see if the devil is RED and has goat feet!

red, yellow, black, and white
they are precious in his site

gnote, you fall victim to your immature reasoning. take note
of the all too modern distinction you make between 'white
and black' was born of racism against native african peoples.

such a notion does not fit any unbiased assessment. you
are employing the same language and racial ideas created by
dead white guys (and many more arab shieks) who subjugated
and enslaved countless african blacks. understand that the
dichotomy is false and malicious. this farce would be comical
if not for your seriousness.

Its simple. If He can zap my ass with a lightning bolt, then I don't care if he is purple, I respect him. 😉 And I think most Christians don't have a problem accepting that. I think people just hear the ones who speak the loudest, and assume thats what we all believe. Unfortunately, the minority speaks for us.

And did it ever occur to anyone that Jesus may have had the power to be different things to different people? I am sorry, but in days when long travels over seas where almost impossible, I refuse to believe he appeared in just Israel and the surrounding areas. The Indians speak of a man who came to them, and taught the same things. Remember, Jesus does not need frequent flier miles to get where he is needed. 😀 So I believe he could be asian, hispanic, african, irish, whatever he wanted.

So, you are saying this "Jesus" had mystical powers not detectable by any instruments? So, he's like the "Crossing Over" guy?

i don't give a damn....he can be white, black, yellow, green, i can care less....

i have no religion

i am a wondering soul
