In 2001 I was still playing Quake1 just like I am now. Let me tell you about great games :)

It's the level where there is the three different main sections, one with the smallish green area with all the little crevices for dodging fire, and then that backs onto the room with the grate above it that has some weapon in it. That room in turn connects to a hallway that is darkened, which joins with another hallway, as well as connecting to the main room with the GL in it. Some of it is brown brick, some grey, some green, and it is all one level. It has a lot of pillars in the grey areas, and a few points where there are blocked off stairways. Stack is fun too. :D

Do you mean the archives?
No, those are fun with the RCP-90 though. :D Almost everything on the level can be pierced with the AP bullets, so it's great to just stand and fire through a door and watch other people yell at you for dying. :D To an extent, Hitman 2 had a similar feel to it in terms of environment and the need to not go in guns a blazin' for every mission.

The best was the level that was the second in the SP game. Lure my mates into the area with the lockers and the big gas canisters, and the room that provided access between the two main areas, hide loads of remote mines, there, wait for them to get in there. BANG. Pure Mayhem.
Yep, that is hella fun. I think the thing that made Goldeneye so utterly awesome was the multitude of different play modes (You only Live Once, the Man with the Golden Gun, etc.), and the different awards it gave you (Most Dishonourable, Where's the Armor? etc.).

Still one of the best FPS`s ive played to date.
Can't disagree with that. It certainly was the best FPS implementation on a console bar none. But then, it also had help from the single best controller to ever be used on a console (in terms of overall design). I just wish they made the N64 controller's joystick in the middle a little more durable -- something more along the lines of the GC joystick, or the PS joysticks, which for some reason NEVER seem to wear down. How many game shop N64 controllers did you see that DIDN'T look like the joystick needed a healthy dose of viagra? :D

Now for my personaly opinion on Halo.
[...]
For a console game, its good. But compared to many a PC game, its pathetically average.
An honest opinion. I personally didn't like it all that much on the console, but I don't actively buy new console games (I don't own any of the three newest consoles), so I don't know what alternatives there were/are to Halo.

Exactly.

I was psyched about Halo from a movie clip that came on one of my PC Gamer CD's. I probably played it 20 times. Then they sold out to Microsoft to make it an exclusive title for the Xbox. Now that it's become a worn out console game they want to crawl back to the PC crowd.

Pffffft. No thanks.

Somehow, those facts do not change the gameplay for me. :)

I'm enjoying my first romp through Halo SP. The graphics look very good to my eyes. The sound/music really add to the mood and creates an immersive quality that sucked me right in. The pace of the game suits me, sometimes almost stalking...to all out shoot 'em up, so I'm going to rate the gameplay as very good so far.

Why is the XBOX considered a great system?

It shouldn't be. I've seen 1 XBOX title I would consider a "great" game (Splinter Cell (KOTOR looks pretty good too though)). Whereas PS2 and Gamecube each have 8 or 9 titles of equal or better calibur. I liked Halo better when it was called Goldeneye. Every XBOX exclusive is a copy of something previous and/or is about extreme sports, yet people don't seem to mind because it has 400 more MHz!

Yeah, nevermind the fact that it has better graphics, HDTV resolutions, 5.1DD, etc.

At any rate, what you need to realize is that console and game preference is very subjective. I own both an Xbox and Gamecube, and used to own a PS2. (I will own a PS2 again, after Xmas.) My Xbox sees the vast majority of my gaming time, and that includes the PC. Not because I have some sort of fondness for how fast the cpu is, but because I like the games and I like the visual/audio experience.

Conversely... The majority of the games on the GC just don't appeal to me, but my kids love them.

Which doesnt make it better. The GC does HDTV, and the PS2 does DD5.1

I aggree. Theres no such thing as "thing console is better than another".

Very controversially.
There are many great games on the GC. Both several adult titles and several "non-adult" titles.
People have got to learn that a kiddy appearance does not make something crap, nor do they lose some "street cred" for liking/useing one.
If people continue to think that games like Mario, Zelda and Pikmin are kiddy games, then they are the ones missing out on some true gems of gaming.

And that's exactly why I say "subjective". I just don't care for Mario, Zelda, etc. I'm sure that many people do.

I do like Resident Evil... Metroid Prime is ok... I need to check out Eternal Darkness, as I hear very good things about it.

I'd say its close, but ED and KOTOR are the two best games on any console this gen IMO.

One of my friends from work picked up a Cube when it went to $99, he has a PS2 but figured that his kids would enjoy a Cube not to mention he was a big fan of Resident Evil series and wanted to check out the REmakes. When he picked his Cube up I let him borrow the first RE(they only one I have) along with Eternal Darkness which he had never heard of. He checked out RE and thought the visuals were pretty good, but to get to the point there are now several of his friends that are going to buy a Cube solely for Eternal Darkness despite having relatively speaking sub par visuals(compared to numerous other Cube titles anyway).

The title is best enjoyed with a decent surround sound system, played at night with the lights out. My local EB is now selling the game for $19.99.

People have got to learn that a kiddy appearance does not make something crap

I absolutely agree with that.

If people continue to think that games like Mario, Zelda and Pikmin are kiddy games

I enjoyed Mario and Pikmin(hopefully P2 will be much longer though), Zelda was horrible IMO. Is it possible to die in the game? I still consider OOT the best game ever made for any system, WindWaker was horrendous in comparison IMO. Just way too d@mn easy, the boat segments were drawn out and boring, and the cel shading really detracted from the game for me. I think Mario would have worked well with cel shading, Zelda didn't.

Yea that's how I feel. It's all about exclusive, great games.

Yes everyone likes to slam GC as the "kiddie system" despite the fact that it has RE1 remake, RE0, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, etc. Also, just because a game is rated "E" doesn't mean older gamers can't enjoy it. Wind Waker is rated E yet is a good game, doesn't need blood and mature themes to be ok to play.

Whatever console has the most games you want should be the one you buy though.

ZeroHM ?

Xbox exclusives I would rank as must owns:

Splinter Cell
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Halo
KoTor
Dead or Alive 3
MechAssault
Moto GP 2
Rallisport Challenge
Otogi
JSRF

The exclusives argument doesn't hold as much weight as it once did as the marketplace has changed. There aren't going to be as many exclusive titles on any platform as there used to be. Multi platform titles are the way the industry is going. Almost all of the games you can get on PC are also available on the consoles. Does this mean the PC isn't a viable gaming platform because of lack of exclusive titles? All the consoles have their individual merits.

I think the cel shading worked great, but thats just me. It may have been an easy game, but it was amazingly fun.

JSRF?!!?!?!

It must be great to be an XBOX owner because I can find all of these "must own" titles in the $10 bargain bin at the front of EB.
There's a reason they're on sale.

Several hundred?! Id like to see you try, Shareware and solitaire variants aside. There aren't many well known Good games on the PC that aren't available on the consoles or have ports in the works.

PDO is a phenomenal game, maybe you should try actually playing the games before casting judgement. JSRF may not appeal to you but its still a good game. For example, I don't care for Metroid prime but I recognize its a good game.

I play on different platforms for different types of games:
Xbox- For XBlive ,the Multiplatform titles, Sports, racing and fighting games.
GC- For the exclusives
PC- FPS, Flight sims, MAME
PS2- I don't really play much anymore, My DreamCast actually sees more playing time.

OK, Zimzum, I may not be the biggest Xbox fan, but we do have some common ground here. I agree that a healthy videogame diet includes a variety of platforms.

I play:
Dreamcast and GC - for the numerous, well-made exclusives
PC - for FPS, war simulators, and D & D type games. (Basically games that require a mouse)
PS1 - for rare classics like IQ, Einhander, and Super Puzzle Fighter II turbo
PS2 - for sports and everything else.

and who doesn't bust out the occasional Mike Tyson's Punch Out for NES

BoomAM,
Before you spare anybody any embarrassment remember that you said, "I can name several hundred PC games that arnt available on consoles." However, just off the top of my head, Sim City, Tribes, C&C, Serious Sam, Unreal, Aliens vs Predator, Quake 3, and Medal of Honor are on consoles.

Granted, the console versions might not be as good as the PC versions, but that doesn't restore any of your argument's validity and certainly spares anyone from any embarrassment.

Half Life 2- Will be on XBox as will Doom 3
Serious Sams 2 - will be available on the Xbox, SS1 is already available.
Medal Of Honor in its many incarnations - PS, PS2, XBOX, GBA, and the GC. LMAO
C&C-n64, PS, Sega Saturn
Unreal Tournament- PS2, DC
Unreal Tournament 2- XBOX
Unreal Tournament 2003- Xbox
Jedi Academy- Xbox
Alien Vs Predator- Jaguar
Quake 3- ps2
Tribes 2- PS2
The Sims- PS2 Xbox

Some of those are weak games that no one bothered to port for good reason. Don't stop now you only have 190 more to go. I never said there weren't any I said "there aren't many well known GOOD games".

Its obvious whos embarrassing themselves. But if you want to continue be my guest.

Good PC Games?
Kings Quests
Space Quests
Gunbound
Quake1 (was it on consoles? I doubt it was half the game it is on PCs)
Master Of Orions
Homeworlds
C&C Generals
Commandos
Everquest
SWG
Tron 2.0
Quest for Glories
Angband
Age of Empires
Fallouts
BG Series
Ultima Series
Unreal Series
MUDS (All 100,000 of them or so)
Web based games (all billion or so)
Myths
Mysts
Warcrafts
Starcraft

I'm tired of thinking of games. If any of these made it to console, I'm sure they weren't as good.

The console "version" of C&C are crap, and are completly different to the PC versions, which are good.
UT & UT Championship on console is different to PC versions.
JK: JA isnt on Xbox yet.
By Avp, i ment the FPS versions, that were good.
I didnt list Q3.
Tribes 2 isnt on PS2, Tribes Assault is, which is different, and more importently, crap.
I didnt list the sims either.

Wether you want to admit it or not, the PC is still a very good gaming platform, and has alot of games that consoles simply can have on them due to lack of grunt in them. Ive got better things to do than list hundreds of games with someone who refuses to admit truth.

Half life 2 anounced on the Xbox, dude this is old fairly well known news
Serious Sam 2 on the Xbox
Sim City- GBA,PS,SNES

The quality of the ports is irrelevant. The fact is most of the games you listed as being "PC exclusives" have versions available on consoles. Are you quitting?? Still no where close to "several hundred".

When did I ever say the PC isn't a good gaming platform?! The whole point of my original argument was the UNIMPORTANCE of exclusives. Just because most of the games available on the PC are also available on the consoles it in no way lessens the viability of the PC as a gaming platform. You need to work on your reading comprehension.
