Hahaha,

Isn't it funny. For years now people have been stating that Halo is the single reason to buy an Xbox. It is often stated in console threads. "The Xbox games, while few, are AWESOME" usually sums up the comments. And when you ask which games? Always Halo, Kotor, etc.

I always shrugged it off and assumed that Halo was really awesome. Hell, I had seen the worthog toss video and that was enough to make me a believer. But... to actually play the game.

Myself and several of my friends are currently playing Halo for the PC and none of us think it is awesome. One friend beat it and said the end was pretty cool but the actual ending was retarded. I stopped playing after "The Library" and another friend is about to reach the library now. I told him he is going to enjoy that template-fest *cough*.

I also happen to be playing Tron 2.0. Which is an awesome FPS by comparison.

I personally feel like it's Tribes 2 - good graphics - keyboard/mouse - variety in play - real multiplayer (like 32 or 64 people) = Halo. I don't see anything new, but some people might just like it more than me. Good for them.

Boring.... I guess I've played just too many FPS games in the past that HALO feels like another generic fps game.

Man, I had four friends who picked up an N64 JUST for Goledneye. It's all about the 4 player deathmatch in the Basement with Grenade Launchers! :D
That game is STILL fun to this day.
Basement?
Dont remember that level. Describe it for me.
Do you mean the archives?
The best was the level that was the second in the SP game. Lure my mates into the area with the lockers and the big gas canisters, and the room that provided access between the two main areas, hide loads of remote mines, there, wait for them to get in there. BANG. Pure Mayhem.
Still one of the best FPS`s ive played to date.

A trend here is mentioning vehicles as if they are something special to Halo now, but realise that yes, two odd years ago when Halo first appeared for the XBox, it was one of the only FPS games at the time to have vehicles, but now, there are several (which were in development along the same time as Halo).
Thats the thing i find odd. People go on about Vehicles in Halo like it was the first fps to have them in. I can name several FPS games that had vehicles in, that came out long before Halo.
Tribes2 for a start. And it did them better as well.

Now for my personaly opinion on Halo.
GFX;
Looks ok. Some parts look very good, while others look worse than the original HL.
Sound;
Not very impressive array of enemy voices, but its one of the few games where the surround actually works, propely.
Gameplay;
Some parts are OK, but upto now (not completed yet), it seems to be a few sections of exploring, then its all standard FPS affairs, get to this point, defend this point, protect survivors, wait for evac, ect;
Verdict.
For a console game, its good. But compared to many a PC game, its pathetically average.

Tribes 2? The original Tribes had vehicles as well, and was, quite frankly, the better of the two games.

As for co-op HALO on the X-Box, can that be done in split-screen mode?

Halo single player was ok IMO but nothing special. Main thing that even made it good was the vehicles. Online on both the Xbox and PC version blow. Everything seems unbalanced to me. The shield sucks because you have to drain it before you can start on their health. If you turn shield off from server they die with just a few shots. Getting a head shot while someone is moving it hard. Which is the only real fast way to kill them and you need a sniper rifle for that.

The machine gun is spray and pray. You can forget about killing someone from even a small distance off. Not to mention they run slow as $h!t,no dodge system and the list goes on and on.

Thats a matter of opinion.
Ive heard that people who`ve played T1 then T2, prefer T1. And visa versa. Ive only played T2, and so cant comment on T1. T-V looks very good though.

The best thing about Halo was the co-op mode. Sadly, this is missing from the PC version. Too few games have co-op.

I thought the music for Halo was really well done. The theme that always comes on before all hell breaks loose is very effective at getting me amped up for a big confrontation.

I played Halo co-op with a friend on his X-box, but I may just have to buy an X-box to play Halo 2. :D

HALO is one of the worst FPS i've ever played...I have no idea why it got the highly-acclaimed reviews that it did...

Must say that I too am dissapointed as well. While there were some good points in it, the repetitiveness of it got to me. And it had such great potential too, as far as story line go's.:(

Like I've always said, the repetitiveness is the only downside (imho, of course.)

Have you tried multiplayer yet? It rocks! :)

Halo on XBOX stood out because of a few things. Visually it was at least on par with anything out at the time. What more can you say about that ? The audio was incredible. The soundtrack was nothing short of masterful, especially how it changed in tone and tempo with what was happening. Gameplay/interaction with surroundings/vehicles was great. It offered nothing I had ever come across at the time. Multiplayer (offline) allowed for the best co-op play anywhere. The storyline was good too, but it did get repetitive as you got to the last 2 'levels'...

Sorry I'm not making my point too well.. it's getting late... and umm... I gotta do something else.

Goldeneye is my favorite FPS for a console.

Yea, those were the days. There's something about 4 guys sitting around a console having fun that you just don't get on PCs, not quite even at a LAN. Sure you had to deal with a splitscreen, but damn was that fun.

I wish I had more opportunities to play Goldeneye, then and now. It's one of the very few N64 games I kept.

Single player was also great. In order to get all the cheats and levels you really had to put in a lot of time and effort. I got everything legit =).

I'm now an owner of Halo on PC. I'm not that impressed. I played for a few hours, and while it's fun, it's not the digital orgasm that some people say it is. The graphics are on par with Half Life, maybe a little better. I don't see what's so great about the weapons, they're pretty standard. The Warthog is kinda cool, but of limited usefulness. I'll finish it to see if it gets better, but there are much better games. I haven't played multiplayer yet, but I don't see how it could be better than Tribes or CounterStrike.

Any decent shooter on a console would be considered a great game.

PC game players are used to them.

Bober-

I have at least a rough gauge of your skills so I would strongly advise you start the game over on either Heroic or Legendary(Legendary if you really want to be tested on your first play through). I wouldn't even bother playing through on the lower skill levels, you will miss too much of the effect of the game.

I'd say Wingz and I have played our fair share of PC shooters. I'd say Halo easily stacks up against any of them. I don't think it quite surpasses HL, but I have no hesitation mentioning them in the same breath.

Generally, I don't disagree with people's opinions... But this one is just wrong. Just compare any two screenshots (these probably aren't the best shots, but I just grabbed a couple)...

Halo
Half Life

The detailed textures, the specular lighting, the complex shadows, the obvious poly count difference, the depth of focus... I'm sorry, but Halo's graphics are incredibly better than Half Life.

You sure chose the ugliest HL screen shot you could find, didn't you?

Whatever. All I did was find one that had some outdoors in it. I didn't spend a lot of time tracking down screenshots for either game.

If you'd like to link to a better picture, feel free to spend the time and search one out.

Ive gotta admit, in parts, Halo looks stunning, but in others, it looks no better than HL1.
The parts that use alot of bump mapping and pixel shading looks very good.
Its also the first game that ive seen through water in the air when a grenade explodes in it.
And again, its the first game ive used that has used my 5.1 speaker system how it should be used. With the center channel for dialogue and main sounds.

I wasnt impressed in 2001. I thought it was pretty bad in 2001. Upto now, the M+K has sorta saved it, imo.
