The idea of evolving controllers is great...but in practice...I don't see how anyone other than kids under 10 will think this is really all that great.

How many adults want to be flailing around there living room trying to play a video game? Not me. I play video games to relax. If I wanted to play football, I'd go outside and throw a ball. If I wanted to play golf...the real thing is 100x better.

I'm perfectly happy with the current crop (x360) controllers that wirelessly let me plop my ass on the couch and enjoy an hour of two of relaxing gaming. Not to mention how many adult males will suddenly find themselves single when there SO sees them fighting Darth Vader with a funky remote in the living room shouting out "Father, I know you are still good!"

That's funny, but I don't believe it's accurate. My fiance is excited to play WiiSports & Wii's Super Monkey Ball with me. She's already pre-ordered my Wii. I really think the new control scheme is going to even get my dad back into video games after he got tired of the "hottest new games" all being FPSes.

ARRRRRRR, because it be the best thing for ye landlubbers to get yer hook on.

1. Nintendo does more with less. They don't need to go to a super high-end system that costs an arm and a leg to get people to buy, they have a higher percentage of awesome games. Fun > pretty.

2. Nintendo said they'd release on X date. They're obviously on track for that. They said they'd have X number available, it seems that they'll deliver on that promise. They're able to follow through on their announcements, which makes them dependable and a favorite of people who are sick of waiting for overpriced and over-marketed garbage.

3. You can get NES, SNES, N64, and some Genesis games for it. Yes, it costs something, but I'm sure there will be freebies now and then, like Christmas games and whatnot. Plus, there's always the chance for new third-party games, ala Valve/Steam and what they've been offering developers. That means no media required, games could be developed and offered directly over the download service, means that smaller game companies can get in on the action.

4. It's Nintendo. They rule.

I might be interested in getting one. Would be awesome to play some of the older classics on something other than an emulator.

There's going to be an online service for the Wii, a catalog of games from the Genesis, NES, SNES, and N64...you pay a small fee (couple of bucks) and get to download them to the HD in the Wii, and play them. So instead of cracking out an old dusty Genesis which may not even work, you can just play them on the Wii, maybe better quality too?

Ohhh, ok. I thought this was something different (ie emulator-ish). I saw that they were going to release NES/SNES/N64 games, but I didn't see Genesis games. One that I would *love* to play is RoadRash.

The one thing I am disappointed about is only 480p resolution...

I know I'm down for one. The interactive controller setup alone is going to set the mark for others to try and follow. Not surprising that Nintendo came up with this first. It kind of reminds me of what they were trying to do with the Power Glove back in the NES days. I guess technology finaly caught up.

Beyond that, the virtual console feature alone is enough for me to want one and a $250.00 price point compared to a $400.00 360 or a $600.00 PS3 makes this thing the total package!!!

The bottom line is that Wii > *

JR..

Edit: Oh yeah, I don't need my gaming console to be a 1080p Mini Wannabe HTPC that plays HD/Blu-Ray DVD's in Dolby 7.1 either... I have dedicated equipment for that task. I'd prefer my game console be dedicated to its task as well. ;) Oh, and if you absolutely must have Super Mario Bros. or the Original Legend of Zelda in 1080p HD then you really need to get out and get laid!! :p

Should be noted that right now it only looks like Nintendo games will be available at launch. I still haven't seen anything on when the Genesis games will be available for download.

I was a little tike when nes/snes came out...and I was definitely a videogame player. After n64 I never really played/bought anything till college when I would play some games on a friend's modded xbox. I also got out of computer games.

Absolutely nothing would hold my attention span after Tribes, the only game I would really play is worms series stuff. Games were just no longer fun for me/take too long/too many buttons/or just too much about graphics.

Fast forward to today and I now own a ds lite...best purchase I've made all year, better than food. This system is so flippin' fun and easy to pick up and just play for 15-20 min at a time.

The wii is the first home console to spark my interest/excitement level since snes...I remember when I found out that was my x-mas present...I went insane haha. The control scheme is the type of thing that would bring a casual gamer back/interest me. I don't care about better graphics, games bore me! I want something new and exciting...this is it.

I didn't care at first and then when all of the details started rolling in my interest increased. Now I want to preorder one. I'm pretty sure that the price point in comparison to the PS3 did not hurt Nintendo at all. In fact, it looks like a lot of people who already have 360s and want another system will end up with a Nintendo instead of the PS3.

When I first heard about the new controller I laughed my ass off. I thought it was rediculous. I couldn't wait for my PS3. Things change, the more i heard and saw about the Wii and the controller and games, the more I was drawn to it. The Wii will be my first console since the Genesis.

Anyone know if costco will have the Wii on release day?

I wish it were a bit more powerful but I'm still very excited. The fact is, nintendo has the right idea. They think that gameplay is more important than GFLOPS and pixel shaders. They are right. There is a reason why DDR is so popular. Aside from the sheer fun of physically swinging stuff around, there is also the fact that some genres advance in leaps and bounds with a different control scheme.

I don't care if the $250 price tag is still more than it should be and will turn a profit. What I care about is whether $250 is going to be a long term good investment for entertaining me.

I think sony is grossly miscalculating with their pricing scheme and feature set.

Interest sky-rocketed post-E3 because people got a look at titles like Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Red Steel and even Wii Sports. Not only that, but people finally got to try out the new controller and the consensus seems to be that, in spite of a few bugs, it's really fun. Features like Virtual Console and WiFi help too, but the titles and control scheme are definitly the biggest draw.

My DS has brought me to a little epiphany: I don't need good graphics, I need good gameplay. That is what Nintendo is all about.
