Why I love foreign cars.

My car is a 1997 Nissan Altima.

My car issues...

1. I have over 180,000 miles on it.
2. The check engine light has been on for the last 2 years. It's a valve leak.
3. The exhaust is shot and rusted. It makes this grumbling sound and it's quite noisy.
4. My car needs a tune up badly. When I come to a red light the car will start to shake as if it's going to stall on me, but it never does.
5. It's been 6,000 miles since my last oil change. I'm getting an oil change tomorrow morning.
6. My shocks and struts are done. Everytime I hit a bump the underneath of the vehicle makes this loud sound and whenever I make a sharp turn I can hear the struts. It makes this awful sound.

This car has gotten me through college. During my last semester I had to drive 140 miles a day for 5 days a week so I could get back and fourth to school and yet I had ZERO issues! The only problem was that I had to constantly fill the tank with gas.

Let's see an American car do that! 🙂

Uhhh.. if an American car had those same problems you would be saying how unreliable they are, but when it comes to your foreign car, it's ok. 😕

You can keep it.

.... and just to piss on your parade even more:

It's got 180k with all those problems... pffft... my '97 Olds Regency has now $136k and runs like new, none of the crap your car has.

Definately have to agree with you. My first Honda Civic was past 190,000 miles with no problems before I gave it away. I have new Civic now, I'm pretty sure it's going to last.

my father finally retired his 84 olds 98 with 219k on it. no check engine lights. seems like
American cars CAN do better than beater ricers after all.

My 97' 4runner limited has just turned 150,000 and she's still a horse. Believe it or not it actually still has some of that new car smell left because the leather's in such good shape.

She is starting to show some minor wear and tear because I now commute a busy highway for 30 minutes two ways each day. I don't like that. The paint is still in really good shape, and alot of people are surprised she's a 97'. Every one always looks shocked and says "Oh....I thought it was a 2000".

It was the best $7500 I ever spent. Paid in full and no maintenance issues......watch me jinx myself here though

I have it away to my cousin mainly because I wanted and could afford a new one.

I misread your post. LOL

Still, the Altima sounds like a complete POS.

My '91 Grand Prix had 250,000 miles on it.
The check engine light wasn't on.
The exhaust was in good condition.
I changed the spark plugs about once every two years.
I changed the oil about once every 6000 miles.
It didn't cost much to replace the struts.

Darn, I guess the car that put me though college held up too well.

Edit: it was 250,000 miles when I sold it in 2001.

No if an American car had those problems it would be in flames already.

Why does it sound like a POS? I commute a lot. Work both ways is 60+ miles. College both ways is 140 miles and I was commuting to both destinations on a daily basis. I think it's damn good that I could do this without having major issues.

This thread was mainly aimed at Ford cars. Everybody that I know that has had a Ford has had major issues and they were lucky if they got to the 100,000 mile mark.

Dads Chevy Astro-Van ended its life with ~700,000 miles on it,original engine.
His new one that he has had for 24 months has about 110,000 miles on it.

I have full belief that American cars can last/outlast foriegn cars... but for the equal price, I think certain foreign cars give you more for the amount you spend.

700,000 miles?

I didn't think a vehicle could last that long!

You don't call the problems you have 'major issues'?

Anyone feel like calculating how much gas money must have been spent on that beast? That's seriously impressive though.

My '85 Skylark had 220K+ miles and had ZERO problems when I sold it 8 years ago. My cousin's friend is driving it right now somewhere in Western Mass.

my dads 84 ford f150 had a bit over 300K miles on it when he sold it in 03...thing was still hauling horse trailers into 02-03...orig engine, transmission, everything. blew out a little smoke in the mornings but other than that was a great american truck 😛

Then you should have said FORD and not AMERICAN.

The US Gov't should declare you an enemy combatant and torture you in a secret East European prison.
