I have it away to my cousin mainly because I wanted and could afford a new one.

I misread your post. LOL

Still, the Altima sounds like a complete POS.

Why does it sound like a POS? I commute a lot. Work both ways is 60+ miles. College both ways is 140 miles and I was commuting to both destinations on a daily basis. I think it's damn good that I could do this without having major issues.

This thread was mainly aimed at Ford cars. Everybody that I know that has had a Ford has had major issues and they were lucky if they got to the 100,000 mile mark.

Honestly, I think the reason you are having problems is that you may push the car too hard. I know a lot of people that reline 2-3 times a day and try to get up to 60 between every stop light before slamming on the brakes. I've got my '95 accord v6 still that I use for going to client sites (I have a 2002 accord v6 that I use as my daily driver) and the '95 has ~155k on it right now, the only non-preventative maintenance I've ever had to do was change an o2 sensor. That was at ~75k and was still under the warranty. Other than that the check engine light has never been on.

My car is a 1997 Nissan Altima.

My car issues...

1. I have over 180,000 miles on it.
2. The check engine light has been on for the last 2 years. It's a valve leak.
3. The exhaust is shot and rusted. It makes this grumbling sound and it's quite noisy.
4. My car needs a tune up badly. When I come to a red light the car will start to shake as if it's going to stall on me, but it never does.
5. It's been 6,000 miles since my last oil change. I'm getting an oil change tomorrow morning.
6. My shocks and struts are done. Everytime I hit a bump the underneath of the vehicle makes this loud sound and whenever I make a sharp turn I can hear the struts. It makes this awful sound.

This car has gotten me through college. During my last semester I had to drive 140 miles a day for 5 days a week so I could get back and fourth to school and yet I had ZERO issues! The only problem was that I had to constantly fill the tank with gas.

Let's see an American car do that! 🙂

Uhhh.. if an American car had those same problems you would be saying how unreliable they are, but when it comes to your foreign car, it's ok. 😕

You can keep it.

QFT

my grandma's '91 bonneville has 220k+ miles on it and she is just now getting a new one
the only recent big-cost probelm, not critical for most people, was the A/C, cost near $1600, but the car ran fine without A/C belive it or not

now you're trying to justify why your car sucks ass.

Are you out of your mind? My American car was purchased 5 years used in 1982. It was sold in 2002. During its life it required brakes, batteries, tires & exhaust. Lets see YOUR wieniemobile do THAT!

my 95 subaru has around 154k on it and its still going strong. Most of the issues tended to be caused by the driver, not the car😛 (my dad, not me)

HA, My 1992 FORD Mustang, V8 that was driven to hell and back by its previous owners, had 189k Miles on the 5.0 (302 HO Engine), Nearly stock minus exhaust and still put out More HP at the rear wheels than it was rated for at the crank from the factory, Did not smoke one bit, used no oil. Cranked on cold mornings on the first try, never cut out on me. Lets see your High performance foreign cars do that!

And it was still running when I garaged it for major upgrades, and the motor will probally be dropped into a little miata project car when the stang is done.

'99 Explorer Eddie Bauer. 187,000 miles. Never done anything but gasoline, tires, oil, and brake pads. Idles and runs just like new. Towed 5,000 pound trailers for a good part of its life and is almost never without at least 500 pounds of various weight in the back.

But then, I guess that's still not the same as your Altima since your Altima has apparently degraded into a piece of junk that's barely running while the Explorer still runs, rides, and drives like it was brand new.
