This article is pretty much the greatest work of fiction since the Bible. I mean, I'm sure there are people like Lucy in the world, and I'm sure there are a great number of them. But to characterise everyone born in the last 40 years as being akin to Lucy is, well, it's not even disingenuous. It's simply fiction.

Let me mention just a few shitholes in Jersey.

Trenton

Camden

Elizabeth

Newark

Jersey City

Paterson

Hoboken

I've worked in all of them and never worked in any place that comes close anywhere in Texas.

When was the last time you've been in Jersey? : )

Heh heh. That is pretty funny someone from Jersey arguing with someone from Texas about shitholes.

Give it up man, Jersey definitely tops the shithole list. It's like a national joke. I lived in that rathole for several years and couldn't wait to get out of it. (Granted, California has its share of shitholes as well, but at least we have good weather year round.)

I'd take TX any day over Jersey. (In fact, I'd take it over CA like quite a few people I know that had enough of Cali and now live much better in TX. I'm just too heavily invested in CA and am doing too well here to leave.)

The only people that hate TX are dipshit liberals that can't stand the fact that a state that's fairly conservative with no state taxes and a part time legislature proves what a load of horseshit most of their leftwing pipe dreams are.

The fact that you think there is a group of "liberals" or "left wing" in this country means you are without a doubt a partisan hack : ). Thanks for revealing yourself!

It has no state taxes! You should be on a plane there right now! You could arm yourself with the other hicks there and prepare to fight the "liberals" that only exist in your heads!

Unhappy about what?

Under 30 and somehow haven't been held down by "the man".

Hmm like what 29.5? :awe:

The younger you are, the worse.

28.5 is actually the cutoff where people were actually trained to do their jobs and gained experience without having to fight tooth and nail for it. Someone who is like 32 complaining about gen Y is actually not included IMO. I think of Gen X up to 1984 or so and then Gen Y 1985 and after etc.

You are probably like older Gen Y with upper mid class parents if I had to guess. You are in the "I did what my parents said and it worked for me, so whats wrong with you!" category. So you don't really get it. Its like when my sister (7 years older) got into college and by the time she graduated she wouldn't have met the SAT requirements to get in anymore, and they rose for another 3 years still and I had to work much harder to get higher SATs. Its been uphill the whole way for the younger crowd. More expensive, more competitive, less jobs at the end of the tunnel. Thats all there is to it.

Just think of how SAT wise, the top 30% used to get in and all land jobs unless there was something wrong with you. Now only the top 20% get in and 11% are unemployed upon graduating and ~40%+ don't even get a job using their degree etc. Its a slaughter fest. But some people still use 10-20 year old logic (they must be dumb er lazy herp derp) when in fact no actually, they are probably in the top 10% and you squeezed through as the top 15%, just had better timing by birth.

Heh! Sounds like a typical Jersey dumbass alright.

What's the difference between New Jersey and a bucket of shit?

The bucket.

Why is New Jersey called the "Garden State"?

Because "Slums, Landfill and Toxic Waste State" wouldn't fit on a license plate!

Snip~

I'll list some facts again, and let's see your feeble attempt to try to refute them:

-Colleges used to be cheap and degrees meant something.
-Real estate was cheap
-Pensions were plentiful
-Boomers outsourced tons of jobs just to add a few bucks to the bottom line
-Boomers deregulated, causing catastrophes such as the gulf oil spill
-Boomers deregulated, causing the 2008 crash
-Boomers continue to war and occupy foreign countries, bankrupting the US, while gutting US infrastructure, etc.

Snip~

-Colleges used to be cheap and degrees meant something.

Colleges were never cheap. When I was at that age Most People did not go because of cost. We were smart enough not to get into more debt than we could afford.

-Real estate was cheap.

Oh yes! Real cheap with a 16% Interest rate.

-Pensions were plentiful.

No they were not. Most jobs didn't have a company pension plan.

-Boomers outsourced tons of jobs just to add a few bucks to the bottom line

Your Opinion

-Boomers deregulated, causing catastrophes such as the gulf oil spill

BS! There was and still are regulations, The Gulf Oil Spill was a results of Failures of equipment and people Not Following the rules that were in place.

-Boomers deregulated, causing the 2008 crash.

Your Opinion

-Boomers continue to war and occupy foreign countries, bankrupting the US, while gutting US infrastructure, etc.

Obama is not a Baby Boomer.

For you younger people:

Suck it up and grow a pair.

Correct about my age and socioeconomic status growing up...incorrect how I made it to where I am now.

Let's just say I was the problem child out of 4 siblings. I spent more time on little County vacations than I did on a college campus. I have no sympathy for anyone who is physically and mentally capable of making something of themselves, but choses not to.

I have less than no sympathy for over-educated, worldly ignorant 20-somethings who crawl back into the safety of more schooling because they are either too inept or too afraid of doing what it takes to stand out from the herd. I have sat through numerous interviews with these people, and pick up on this trait within 2 minutes of conversation.

For you younger people:

Suck it up and grow a pair.

1. College for $50 a semester is cheap. Plus, the degrees meant something. Now it is the new high school.

2. You aren't even trying.

3. Compared to now pensions were absolutely plentiful.

4. It is my opinion that tons of outsourcing has taken place? AHAHAHA! Are you trying to deny this? AHAHA! That answer shows just what a complete fool you are.

5. The culture of deregulation and unenforcement has everything to do with why the gulf oil disaster took place.

6. Obama brought us into wars/occupations? Please show you work for us! He tried to improve infrastructure, but the Republicans are more interested in trying to defund healthcare for the 50th time.

NY put some refineries across the river so that it would technically be in another state. This would lead the people without a brain to think NY is clean while NJ is not. People like you : ).

Seriously, do you think your post comes across as intelligent? I'm just curious.

I was in Jersey earlier this year and it's still a major shithole. If it wasn't for Atlantic City there would be very few people visiting the state.

I noticed your continuous harping on Texas being ranked 49th in education. Granted Texas is 48th in dollars spent per student but it appears that Texas schools are not ranked as low as you claim.

We aren't talking about visiting a state though... we are talking about living in one. You'd have to be more specific. Where did you visit? Did you visit the southern half? If so, yes it is a shithole. It is similar to rural america. Did you visit the refineries? I'd have to agree with that as well. NY put it across the river for a reason.

Your second link does not make Texas look good...

Chance for Success: C (73.2)
Early foundations: C- (71.5)
Spending: F (52.3)
School Finance: D+ (68.6)

-About one in four children in Texas lived below the poverty level

-Texas Uninsured Rate: Tops the Charts Fifth Year in a Row-According to a poll released Friday by Gallup, 28.8% of adults in Texas lack insurance coverage. This is the highest for any state since Gallup started tracking insurance coverage in 2008.

-Much of Texas’s recent growth is the result of adding low-wage jobs. Of the 211,000 jobs added last year, 37 percent (or more than 76,000) paid at or below minimum wage, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Texas now leads the nation in minimum-wage workers (550,000 in all).

Actually Atlantic City and the lower half of the state are the only parts where it's not a shithole.

How many of those polled on insurance are illegal aliens? Or young adults who feel like they're invincible?

NJ looks to have the same problem with uninsured and high unemployment to boot.

http://www.njspotlight.com/stories/12/0829/1923/

The number of New Jerseyans without health insurance continues to rise, with new statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau showing that 15 percent of people under 65 lack coverage.
The ranks of the uninsured in New Jersey rose nearly 11 percent between 2008 and 2010, according to the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates released yesterday by census officials. Advocates said such increases are to be expected given the continued poor economy, high unemployment, and state cutbacks to a program providing insurance to working-poor families.

Yet Texas is still doing better than your NJ. Housing is still booming, in fact it barely slowed down in 2008/2009. The 4 neighborhoods within 3 miles of where I live have doubled in size since 2008 and still building more. Katy Texas to the north is experiencing the same growth. My house never depreciated in value either and is worth $25k more than I paid for it in 2008.

Jersey has half of the uninsured, even after the actions of our shitty republican government screw people, so they are the same?

The hick parts of NJ are better...just because?

I bought my house in 2009 and I'm up on it too...so? NJ housing is protected due to its proximity to NYC.

Education in Texas sucks, minimum wage employment leads the way.

In NJ, you have access to entertainment in philly and NYC, including museums, theater, and food. You have fantastic downtown areas from small towns like Westfield to towns like Morristown or Montclair. You have great bands that tour(phish for example), you have one of tone most culturally diverse area in the country(which I love), beautiful parks(garden state), and a semi forward thinking population. The weather is bleh, but CA was out due to time zones and my job.

Actually the lower half of the state is the shitty half, and Atlantic City is definitely a shithole. North Jersey is actually one of the wealthiest areas in the entire United States.

Housing in Texas didn't crash, but it also never experienced the big run-up in values that other more competitive real estate markets had. Interestingly enough one of the reasons for this is that housing related financial products are heavily regulated in Texas.

North Jersey shares some of the spillover from NYC's housing market as well, which as always is bananas. My girlfriend bought her apartment in 2007 for $450k and she was offered exactly $1 million for it back in July.

Back to subject
My parents got married in 61 on a weekend back to work Monday, zero honeymoon nor did they expect one. Mat leave back then was two weeks, no company sponsored year off. All the 20 yr olds where my wife works plan weddings more than a down payment on a house, that's some f-ed priorities, sorry princesses you cant afford it.

Every region has peaks and valleys , no area has hundreds of years of continual growth seems stupid to argue about it. A nation is strong because not everywhere is there strength or weakness and can ride out global fluctuations.
