I'm really just curious as to why those who are guaranteed the right still don't possess or carry firearms?

You don't just carry firearm like a pen in your pocket.

Good firearm is not cheap, then the ammo cost, then holster cost, then practice time at the range many many times, then the concealed carry class cost, then the cost of the concealed license, then more practice at the range. Things add up quickly.

Also, there is a thing call "you are responsible" of every single bullet in said gun.

Those items (gun and ammo boxes) in the picture cost me about $700 before anything else.

The only time I will use it is if my life or my love ones is on the line/life or death situation. I hope I will never use it but if/when I really need it, I rather to have it than not.

Because I won't receive my CPL for about another 7 weeks due to the enormous backlog.

Will I carry? I honestly don't know. It's an enormous responsibility.

The class I took about two weeks ago is actually what made me have second thoughts about carrying. First off, if I have to use it, chances are extremely minimal that I won't be arrested on the spot. It's up to the local prosecutor to decide what happens at that point. It's an elected position in my state so it all comes down to politics. Will I have to defend myself in court? Will I have to defend myself from a civil suit? Will it ruin me financially? All that is on one side of the scale and my life is on the other side.

If it has to be used, it's a huge decision that has to be made in a split second.

My fiance is scared of guns. I've been meaning to find the time to take her to a range in hopes of her realizing it's not going to grow arms/legs and fire itself.

I did however inherit a shotgun from my father from hunting days, I told her there wasn't a damn option for me not to take it and not have it in the house. I won there.

Same reason I don't wear a watch. Its just something else I'd keep forgetting to put on when I leave in the morning.

Absolutely. Maybe I euphemised it, but I said in my original post that responsibility (in that I don't think I could use one responsibly) was a reason that I wouldn't carry one even if such a right was guaranteed to me.

If it were a conceled weapon, would you take the required classes/training in order to carry it conceled?
Classes and training must be taken to carry concealed. The penalties for carrying concealed without a license to do so are pretty daunting. The only people that don't follow the rules are the criminals.

Law enforcement in my state pretty much all support concealed carry. We have to undergo a lot of background checking as well as being fingerprinted. The people that carry are the good guys in their view.

People come into my place of business open carrying all the time as well. I pretty much see these people as being acutely aware of what their rights are and careful to operate within them. In other words, responsible citizens. I have nothing to fear from these guys. In fact, I feel comfortable having them around whenever possible. Its the guy with the stolen pistol hidden in his jockey shorts that will prove dangerous if anyone does.

I don't currently have a CCL, but have an application in the works. Even when I get it I'm not sure it will be something I ever even do.

The class, as stated above, makes you have some very realistic expectations of your responsibilities if you ever do decide to carry. Very glad I took the class, and very glad my state gives me the option to carry if I wanted to, just not sure I will.

...or those that live in VT or AK.

Handy for those who like to bring their old lady up to Smugs or Stowe in the wintah ;)

It can make you a target, which might end up being worse than if you had nothing and were assaulted.
Personally I'd rather have it with me and just keep it concealed. I also never tell ANYONE that I carry every day. At school it goes in a lock box and I dont let people see me taking it in or out.

There is not a huge gang presence where I work and much less where I live. I don't feel threatened enough to carry one.

Gangs are much less likely to attack you than random assholes desperate for money or high on cheap pills.

Because I don't want to.

I own guns but really have no desire to walk around playing cops and robbers.

I have never felt the need to carry a gun. I have never been in a situation where being armed would have been beneficial.

I've never been in a situation where CPR was beneficial either, but I made it a point to learn it. It's called being prepared, and I personally would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I wasn't born with a tiny penis and don't need to compensate.

Being prepared for situations doesn't equal having a little dick, or trying to compensate, statements like that are just as fucking ignorant as any homophobe, or racist.

Can I pry it from your cold dead hand?

So, how big is your dick exactly? :sneaky:

As others have said, it is expensive and quite a hassle, both legally and practically. If I had enough extra money that I wouldn't really miss $1k... I would consider it. But still I probably won't ever do more than keep a pistol in my car. My wallet already takes up too much space, I don't even know where I would shove a gun, something I may never use once over several years.

Granted, I don't have enemies. I'm sure I could be persuaded to reconsider all of the above if I did.

I live in a nice neighborhood, its a pain to carry, and my work doesn't allow it.

That being said, if I lived in a sketchy area, I would most definitely carry.

I got robbed at gunpoint last July in St. Paul, MN. I've always been pro-gun, but getting robbed makes you realize that no one is going to protect you. You need to protect yourself - the police will only show up after the fact.
I live in a nice neighborhood also, and I have a CHP (concealed handgun permit) and carry ever time it is legal, and while at home I have a handgun within reach all the time.

There have been 3 or 4 armed home invasions in nice (nearby) neighborhoods within a mile of my house this year, as recently as yesterday at 9 AM. Plus a mid-day break-in about 4 doors down late last year.

They were caught, and they weren't from the neighborhood, but from a sketchy area. I'm not worried about my neighbors, but those that target the better neighborhoods because they can score more stuff and $$$$.

Cops only draw chalk lines around bodies, I have every intention that if they do so in my house, it is the body of the pond scum that believed he had a right to my stuff.

Additionally the wife has her CHP and carries and when I'm not home has her handgun handy. My adult daughter also has her CHP

Most of us wear our seat-belt, yet have no plan to be in an accident. Most of us have smoke detectors and extinguishers to prevent being the victim in a fire. Our preparation also includes not being the victim and dying because some crack head needs more drugs. All are remote threats, yet can (and do) happen all the time.

because i dont own a gun
Are you assuming the cops will protect you?

Are you aware that the SCOTUS has ruled that cops do NOT have the duty to protect you, as have many lower courts?

Cops investigate the aftermath of a crime, take lots of pictures, maybe dust for finger prints, and solve very few cases, and if they do catch the bad guy, they are still on the streets for years before trial, and too often get a slap on the wrist if they ever do go to trial.

I normally only carry when traveling or driving somewhere with a large amount of cash.
