So is there a website where they teach you how to parrot political talking points?

"Fuck you! Iceberg lettuce or nothing goddamn it!!! YEEEEEEEEEHHHHHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! ::gunshot:: ::gunshot::"

I'm voting for Obama because he understands the issues that are important to me.

What I DON'T want is your average dipshit in the White House...or worse, Sarah Palin. Thank god the current dipshit is out this January, let's agree to never put another dipshit in there...EVER!

History fail? Just about every single president has been a dipshit. Not going to change any time soon.

Could you back that up at all?

I'm voting for McCain for the exact same reason. That's the way most voters vote. Seems perfectly intelligent to me.

I don't want to get bent - in fact I agree with you. I just think that this arugala business is nonsense. Arugala is much more nutritious than other types of salad greens.

e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism (i-le'tiz'?m, a-le'-) Pronunciation Key
n.

1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
2.
1. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
2. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.

I'll take dictionary.com's definition over your opinion. ;)

fixed bolding.

being rich doesn't make you an elitist. perceiving yourself as intrinsically better than everyone else because you think you're richer, smarter, etc, makes you an elitist.

I'm sure there's some elitist out there who thinks he's the bee's knees because he's living in a double-wide and none of his trailer park neighbors are.

Exactly.

Since when did being "elite" become a bad thing?

Elitism is an attitude. Elitism is NOT measured by wealth or IQ.

It's entirely possible to be part of the Elite while not being an elitist.

Take GW for example, he's definently not part of ANY elite but he's definently an elitist, take someone like Wesley Clark, he's definently elite but not an elitist.

Being elite has to do with competence, elitism has to do with arrogance.
Exactly. It's an attitude.

some of the greatest american leaders weren't the most intelligent. just look at george washington. you'd consider him a great leader but hardly a great intellectual. but he sure did surround himself with the greatest minds at the time.

This new "elitism is an attitude not measured by wealth" nonsense you're using now because people want their president to be smart and not an average dip shit like republicans desire is a joke.

What's wrong with people in this country?

 Elitism is what it is. I didn't change it. It's just interesting to me how the libs are now trying to find a way to spin it so it isn't used as a negative trait anymore. Keep trying.... :p

how is it a bad thing? Isn't being elite the american dream now days?

And quite frankly, it seems like Republicans and red-staters in general are the ones who really subscribe to this backwards "thought" process.

To me, this is the polar opposite of what we actually need as a country. We need a man of intelligence as President, not some dumbass yahoo who merely surrounds himself with men of intelligence.

I think America's trademark independent streak coupled with a strong distrust of authority makes people distrustful and annoyed with certain behaviors/personality traits, NOT a hatred of intellectualism... in fact I think most Americans appreciate and respect intelligence.

Great people like Jefferson and others were very smart (and rich) yet were not elitists in sense that's important to this debate because they didn't talk down to the people... rather they had faith in the people and built them up and showed tremendous respect for the masses. It's exactly what CAD said, an attitude.

This country is far too independent, proud, and just plain ornery to take the arrogance and belittlement from the Libs... and yes, saying us red-staters are anti-intellectual and backwards is just more of the same arrogance and belittlement.

Yes both sides like to tear down, but most of the reasoning on the Right revolves around how bad the lib ideas are, while much of the underlying foundation for Leftwing thought revolves around how dumb people who don't think like them are. It's a difference that's both subtle and substantial.

That's how I see it.
